intriguing CV8 french postcard (St Raphael Le Dramont 1975)

Post by rolando38 »

Hello

when browsing through the family photos and postcards in a shoebox, I discovered this intriguing one:

ImageCV8 Dramont1 by roland Geo

it was sen by one of our english friends living in Hastings, who used to go camping with his family in the 70s in the same camping where we spent most of our holidays: Camping Le Dramont, close to Saint Raphael , on the french Riviera
our friend did not have a Jensen, just an old Volvo Estate, but surprinsigly enough, the postacard features a CV8, which was a very rare sight in France; it probably caught the eye of the photographer
I tried to scan at 600dpi and enlarge as much as I could to see the numbeer plate : maybe CK.7.. or CX.7..

by the way the camping site still exists , although now mainly populated by bungalows: https://www.campeole.com/etablissement/ ... st-raphael

and I have just spent a few days in St Raphael for Xmas, here are a few pics of the same island (Les Iles d'Or) said to have inspired Hergé for one of the Tintin comics

Very probably CKX 777B, 104/2201, this car was Indigo Blue and there is correspondence in the service file regarding the fitting of a tow hook and also about the owner's experience towing a Cheltenham caravan, which the caravan in the photo does look like. If this photo is of the car with that caravan then it is circa 1966 to 1972 and shows Mr G M Hellings of Aylesbury, or Kingsbridge, Devon (he moved in 1967), on his summer holidays.

well done John !
the postcard was sent on July 1975 but it is very likely that the picture was taken a few years before
is Mr G M Hellings of Aylesbury still known ?

Yes, the owner is an occasional user of this forum (he last visited in May 2017) and the car is taxed and has an MOT so I assume he has still has the car.

Hello Roland,
I bought my car in 1980.
It was a Dark Brown colour at that time.
I am the 5th. owner.
The original colour was Indigo Blue as per your grandparent's photo.

I have since changed the colour to SILVER.
This makes the car look ''longer'' and more ''DART shape''

I have used my car to visit Switzerland-climbed the St. Gothard-7000 Ft.
France-several times and Italy.

Best Wishes Conrad
