Thanks - sounds like very good advice. Will need to at least get her suspension done first though as she is a pig to move on an off the drive with the steering/suspension as it is.
I think there is a local motorsports place that might fancy a look (I live not too far from Dunsfold and there are a couple there!)

Well, Its been a while since anything has really happened with BB - I've managed to do some of the interior (with the exception of the seats and the door cards the cabin is pretty much back to normal) and refitted the hood (seems to 'fit' better after the accident than before!)

That said an impending house move (and as such the garage too!) means I have to get the welding done fairly quickly - starting tomorrow in fact. Thankfully there is a very good chap down the road from me who can do most of the work on the driveway and he reckons between the 2 of us we can get the front end done in 2 days.

So hopefully by this time on Wednseday this:

The walk of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Great to see the new front end sitting on the lounge room floor as well!

I see the cam belt cover is still in place - they are as rare as hen's teeth. Even more surprising in your case given the prang

Keep us posted on progress.

Its been a full on day with the welding... but the news is good! It could almost be mistaken for a car!

Halfway through cutting back... (thats not me in the phot - its mike the guy who can actually weld, unlike me!)

The bumper and headlight surrounds are there just for show (and to make me feel better!) - they aren't actually attached!

All in all - a fine days work!

Yeah - Mrs H wasn't best pleased about that... and she was less pleased with what couldn't be seen in the photo - the stripped down carburettors and fuel pump on the kitchen table...!!

Right...its been a while since I posted any updates on BB. Thats probably because I've not really had time to do anything since the back end of 2017 due to house moves, new job and general chaos!

Anyway - BB os now sitting in her new double garage and ready some some serious work. My intention is to have the replacement subframe, suspension and steering etc ready to go to be fitted before Easter (this year!) and then I can really set to rebuilding the front end, gettting electrics. redone and aiming for a first start in since 2010 before the end of the year! Sounds ambitious but I would like to get her roadworthy and looking a bit prettier before we reach the 10 year point from her accident.

The replacement subframe itself needs a bit of work...

Welcome back

We’ll be racing the roads soon, me in my badly restored JH2.

Hope to see the results we can inspire each other.

Fabulously busy day today! Got the replacement subframe ready to go - new bushes eventually fitted (courtesy of lots of silicone grease and my great grandads 1940s vice!):

(you can just about see BB in the background on the axle stands)

Only thing left to fit is the new suspension dampers (need the lower mounting brackets of the old subframe) and the steering rack (many thanks Kees!)

All being well by lunchtime tomorrow I shall have all 4 wheels in the right corners again!! :-)
Will let you know how it goes!! Fingers crossed!

Hi,

Its been a while since I updated, and this is only a quick one:

The new subframe fit perfectly and I have rebuilt all the electrics at the front end.
Just before holidays I stripped and cleaned the fuel pump and carburettors and they will be reattached this morning.

Hoping for a first start of the engine since 2010 this afternoon.... wish me luck!

If all goes well then its off to a local garage to have the steering/wheels aligned, follwed by an MOT then hopefully to the bodyshop for a respray over winter!

Cheers

Matt :-)

Well, the restart didn't quite go as planned. Sadly when I turned on the ignition the fuel pump kicked in... and the tank was empty.
Schoolboy error!!

Getting some fuel on the way home today to hopefully have another go!

Update on the restart...

Managed to get some fuel and the fuel pump etc kicks in fine, and last night she started turning over nicely.
The only downside is that she isn't firing.

Going to give the plugs and points another look tonight (or tomorrow work depending) as I'm sure that the problem is here (probably the points as she isn't firing on any cylinder yet). I have high hopes that she will be running by the weekend...
