Hi Guys,

I take on board your comments but feel they suit the car,I understand that it takes away the originality from the car but the original plates were US,
(I am in the process of looking for the correct wiper motor so the wipers would settle on the left of the car) i want to use the car for a while to iron out any issues,

I believe you are correct and as long as your vehicle is tax exempt and a historic vehicle then you can use the black and silver plates,

I always thought that it is only pre 73 reg cars that could display those plates for road use.

The rules have definitely changed. From the DVLA's information booklet:

Since April 2016 vehicles manufactured before 1 January 1976
can display the older style plates. You must:

• have applied to DVLA, and
• be registered within the ‘historic vehicles’ tax class.

Vehicles constructed 40 or more years ago are exempt
from tax. The 40 year exemption date rolls forward
automatically each year on 1 April.

Took the car to show my brother and meet up with his SL300 we met around half way at a nice pub 80 mile round trip and the first long journey after getting the car back last week thoroughly enjoyed it and nice to see my brother car run great

Peter. Obvious. The car looks fantastic. Back to the future. Check with your painter and see if he can get you a Fluid Pen. It is for doing a perfeytouch up as the more you use and enjoy your beautiful car the more road trophy’s your car will get. Not to worry as the fluid pen will allow you to do the best touch up possible. I assume you used base coat clear coat. Mix 10-15 percent hardner in the color for the touch up. You can apply however many coats and you will not need clear on top. If you have the tool you probably will never need it but you will be prepared. Do you have a York 2v ac system. RacerJoe. Again. I will look into the touch up pen its a good idea, regarding the A/C i still have the original compressor and had the oil and dryer changed to suit the modern gas and so far the A/C works just fine, also as i am in the UK the need to use it is less than say yourself in the US, also being a convertible the use is limited but i wanted all the items to be in working order,
