FF Mk1 119/139

Post by felixkk »

Happy to say, that 119/139, is now in Switzerland. Andi and I picked her up yesterday and returned late last night. Karl Marschhofer acquired her in 1982 from a Welsh lady (a farmwoman, according to Karl). The car has been off the road since 1986. The car was originally Orange, and was resprayed by Karl in a metallic Audi blue. Some work has been done to get the car back on the road, quite a bit more is needed. My plans are to get her on the road without a complete rebuild, if that is possible.

The paint looks better on the pictures than in flesh, but with almost no bubbling. The interior is original and in good condition. The engine runs well. The brakes have been done, but aren't working very well, it was a bit scary driving the car. The tires are like new, albeit 30 years old! A few minor parts are missing, nothing dramatic. It was pretty much a spontaneous decision on my part- I hadn't been looking, and had been in contact with Karl for quite a while. Everybody who knows him didn't really expect that he would sell any of his cars, including me up until 2 or 3 days ago.

I just had Karl on the phone:

He and his father went to the factory in West Bromwich unannounced, went directly to the Parts Department and spoke to an Alan, saying that they were sent from Porsche to buy an FF. Alan sent them to a sales rep, whose name he could not remember. They gave him a letter from Ferry Porsche, stating that he would very much like to acquire an FF and would in return offer Jensen a discount of 33.3% on a Porsche, and what discount they could do for him. Karl is not sure if Jensen ended up buying a Porsche, probably not, since Jensen were financially in a difficult spot. The sales rep could not tell them in which colour their FF would be available.

They then visited Ferguson and met with a Mr Rhodes/Roades and a Stuart junior. Karl's father is apparently the holder of the patent for the Porsche transmission.

Edit: it's questionable whether this is actually what happen, see later post

Well done Felix, looks like a fairly straight car. I notice that the ABS kit is not fitted, did you get the parts with the car?.

Thanks Dave, Joerg. Yes, the ABS kit came with the car. Rear bumper bits are missing, the radio, and the headrests. He promised to check if he still has the trailer mount.

139 was not Tangerine as I had assumed, but Orange. Still visible and slightly lighter than the tangerine.

Just spoke to Ulric. It seems that Karl had the story of him picking up the Jensen confused with the time in 1987 where he went to the factory to pick up some parts. An Alan did actually work there in the 80s, and his name is on the receipt I have (but not in the 60s). It seems to have been a Walter Bemsel who had picked the car up.

Thank Martin, thanks Grant ( :D )

The car is now under scrutiny at Andi's :| . It looks pretty decent underneath, he said after a brief inspection.
