Progress continues...

Tranny fitted.

Minor issue.. Interference with speedo cable necessitated the conversion to an electro-mechanical speedo drive. The electronic pick-up will drive the speed input to the Transmission Controller.

Gas Tank reinstalled.

Measured for new driveshaft.

More goodness happening:

Super-insulated fuel line completed. Now all I have to worry about is "Fuel-line Freeze-up"!

I know you guys are on the edge of your seats with this project.... So I am trying to keep you informed...

The car has been back on the road! Whoo Hoo!

Shooting for a completion date at the end of the week.

There were a number of wild and wacky challenges that had to be worked through on this build, and there are a few minor ones to overcome. The majority are the way that the Jensen is designed, but there were a few caused by the way mods had been made to my car over the years.

Nevertheless - all the "heavy lifting" is complete. The issues are now just minor cleanup. Everything mechanical (Transmission / Torque Convertor / Electronic Control / Starter / Exhaust / Fuel System / Driveshaft / Rear End Gearing / Panhard Rod is installed and works, the shift points are set, all the plumbing and cooler lines are installed and operating.

Unplanned Challenges Due to Jensen Design:

1. Jensen Shifter Linkage behaves opposite of what was expected for the 4L60E. Shifter Linkage was re-engineered at the end of the shift cable to operate appropriately.

2. Throttle Cable - Attaches via the front of the engine. Required reconfiguration due to the Throttle Position Sensor configuration on the carb.

NOTE: All modifications were set up so that the car could be taken back to stock. No irrevocable changes were made to any of the linkages, cabling, or harnessing.

Challenges Remaining:

1. Leaky Pinion Seal - The brand new seal leaked! REPLACED

2. Vacuum Leak - My engine is idling too high (1200 - 1500 RPM). The carb was leaking at the base gasket, and this was corrected, but there is another vacuum leak somewhere.FIXED

3. Voltage on the ground circuit - There seems to be ~9 volts on the engine or in the console during operation. It seemed to be grounding back through the throttle cable and linkage. Under investigation. DEFERED

Getting closer!

Lookin' good Rocky! Going to be a fun shakedown cruise home :) Did you check the line to the brake booster..pinch it a bit see if the vacuum reading changes. Sounds like you have a floating ground on one of the circuits. If I recall doesn't the voltage stabilizer, for the gauges, have a 9V output? If so you might want to start lookin' there. Happy Motoring :)

Lee -

Thanks for the tip. That's a good lead to investigate. As long as the car is running, it's likely I'll be he one working the electrics.

I'll have to get in there anyway. My buddy found out that the Fuel door switch blows the fuse (for both the blower and the fuel solenoid - as it should) when activated. That's another thing to check.

I have read up on this, and know I need to evaluate the "cross-over relay" behind the dash panel, and that the fuse is behind the glove box. From what I've read, the fuel door solenoid is pretty robust, and the issues are generally elsewhere.

Thanks -

Rocky

PS> I am looking forward to the drive home....

Watch out for tornados and hail! I had four vehicles hit (but NOT the Interceptor!) and much damage to my home Friday night (insurance is a good thing). The storms come up quick, so keep an ear to the radio or the weather app on your phone. Fortunately, in an Interceptor, you can out run most storms! Have a great, safe trip.

Thanks, D..

I'll be watching.

We used to live in Dallas (Highland Village, on the north) so I know the Texas weather patterns.

Will keep you posted. I'm thinking of returning via Alamogordo, i used to live there too!

Pix to follow!

About 1/2 way back from TX.

Only problem with the Tranny upgrade... Now I need more motor!

Cruises at 80 mph at 2550 RPM.

I made it from Weatherford, TX to Silver City, NM - various stops on the side.

More pix to follow, but I like this one.
