My New Interceptor - '72 Mk 111, 133-5597
Re: My New Interceptor - '72 Mk 111, 133-5597
As anyone who religiously follows this thread is well aware, my speedo went on the "fritz" (it went erratic, then it locked up) at the start of my Texas trip, about 100 miles east of Tucson.
Upon return, I pulled it, and I noted the mechanism was frozen (or at least extremely stiff), and didn't want to force it.
I took it to a local expert who checked it out - he didn't find the smoking gun, but told me there was a lot of white paint from the inside of the housing gumming up the works. He cleaned all that up, and cleaned / oiled the mechanism.
He felt the white paint inside the housing was not Smiths/Jaeger factory - and speculated that the paint was possibly applied at the Jensen factory in an attempt to brighten up the speedo. Any thoughts on this observation?
Anyway - I expect to install the speedo in the very near future. I got a cool LED bulb to illuminate it, replacing the little 3 watt incandescent flashlight bulb.
The Headlight Project discussed above was successfully implemented, and it checked out successfully, as well. More details on that will follow.

Got these sweet little bulbs cheaply on evil-Bay.
They really brighten up the gauges.
7 installed so far. Might need to order another pack of 10.

Re: My New Interceptor - '72 Mk 111, 133-5597
Quick question: what turns on the light above the glove box, in front of the passenger? Is there a switch for that?
Thanks,
Rocky

There should be a switch in the bracket on the firewall at the top of the glove box. Like one of the door switches.

Thank you. Apparently mine is not working, but I will check it out!

You have to have the side lights on or the headlights Chuck for the glove box one to work I think

Unfortunately, I was unable to drive the Interceptor on this trip to Michigan...
Trying to get one with the correct orientation!

Grant... Yes. They found a big box of NOS “coffin wheels“ behind this old car they called an FFF100 or something.....
Unfortunately, the wheels didn’t fit on my buddy’s Porsche, and they were all covered on cosmoline and spiderwebs!

Fantastic. Do you fit in?
One of the most desirable TVRs before the late 90 models.
Sorry have to ask (see it all the time) - what is it with the double B. Should be Webers, right? Sorry to be a pain in the ass about something so unimportant

Hi Dion....
It’s because each of those carbs has two b-barrels!
No, I was wondering, but I just didn’t take the time to look it up!
Thanks for setting me straight!

Re: My New Interceptor - '72 Mk 111, 133-5597
I do fit! The TVR is actually quite roomy, but the door openings are small.
I believe it is the same body, but an early prototype. My 2500M body is the longer one - longer than the Grantura bodies.
The engine / exhaust note are awesome.
And, as you know, Martin Lilly was the first person to come up with the brilliant idea of using women to sell high performance motor vehicles!
Cracking!!!
I may be able to post a picture of the TVR (and a famous motoring personality) on the windswept moors of the Thames-on-Essex if there is any interest..
