Which alternator do you have fitted?

Hi
I hate to admit it but I don't know! I just asked Andy at Appleyards to fit an upgraded one for me and I am fairly sure he said this one is 90 amp. It is a major improvement over the original and the electrics now function like a modern car!

From the picture Chris it looks like the Powermaster one, its a copy of the original Interceptor one but with upgraded internals

Hi Grant you are correct its a replacement power master and is a very good upgrade

I am just fitting a old 4 speed box like Marks one, its strange though because all the early mopar 4 speed cars had mechanical clutch rods and yet Jensen went hydraulic and had this lever system for the fork arm and release bearing that I can just see in Marks pics, do you know what slave cylinder Jensen used Andy please?

You havnt got any manual 4 speed box bits Andy have you .. ie a gearlever and attachments have you?

Good to see it all back together. Can't wait to catch up with you, and your better half, at Reims next week and see the old girl with all its little body issues. Its been 12 months since our cars were together at the international, and am amazed that we're 50% of the MK1s heading to Turin, and (no offence meant) we are probably not the prettiest MK1s out there. But what the hell we'll do it by hook or by crook, they were built to be driven across continents, and that they will still do, although mine hasn't got a new engine. I don't know whether that is a good or bad thing, but like you I've put many miles (1000 in my case) on it over the past month to ensure it will do the trip.

Good to hear from you - I have been following your progress on the forum and look forward to meeting up in France or Belgium and no doubt the petrol issue will add to the adventure! I popped into Machine Mart today to get my petrol cans just in case. I think I can get about 250 miles out of a tankful - in principle I should be able to get just over 300 but I think I would be sucking up a lot of rusty debris from the bottom by that point...
I have had two mouse experiences - on the first occasion one appeared on the dashboard while I was doing 70 down the A1 - it almost made me jump out of my skin! If the mouse is in the car still I suppose you are right and I should get it chipped for the continent! Nevertheless, having recently moved and acquired a more sophisticated urban garage, I am hoping the experience won't be repeated!

Latest progress...
The car is currently with John and Graham at Culverland for a little bodywork TLC...
Most of the interior is out so attached is a picture of the gearbox linkage for anyone interested in mechanical matters...
Mike (previous owner) had a lot of bodywork done on the car by Cropredy in the mid-80s - so about 30 years and 95,000 miles ago. This included a new nearside full front wing, new sills, most of the front end panels and a new nearside rear wing panel. He then had the wing seams repaired and the car repainted again about 16 years ago - a couple of years before we bought the car in 2003. I had a few repairs done and the colour changed back to (the wrong - Peugeot Meteor Silver) grey in 2009 at a cost of £900 (!) so it has lasted very well really considering. Graham has, we think, found evidence of the original "Thunder Grey" on the B-post and it looks to be a non-metallic, slightly brownish, warm, dark grey and he will try to get it matched for us.
What we are aiming for is really good repairs to the damaged panels (rather than a total rebuild) and then returning the car to the original colour. I want to keep as many of the 48 year old bits as I can. And the Cropredy rebuild in the 80s is also an important part of the history so I need to keep as much evidence of that as possible.The seats seem to be a little past their best ("not repairable"!) but I can't bin the original leather... once its gone, its gone forever - so the car might end up looking smart on the outside but still a bit shabby (well-loved?) on the inside...

Tailgate - I don't think this been touched, other than the frame being painted with the glass out by Cropredy, since the car was changed to red for the first time in the early 70s (Mike might know different).
Nearside rear wing - needs a new panel and then most of the lower valance (Cropredy only did the top panel containing the lights).
Nearside front wing - water had got in behind the seam repair patch and was causing some bubbling - still I can't complain after 16+ years of the car being driven in all weathers.
Plenty of evidence of the old red paint around the lights on the front panel!

Hello Mark, that picture of the Naked Gearlever was Music to my eyes if there is such a saying!!! I have waited years to see that pic and hassled Zac to go through his archives looking for a pic like that-that we thought he had but to no avail .. now I have it ... You are a Star and My Hero Mark .. I know you took that pic especially for me and I feel privalidged!!

I showed the thread to my friend who has been building Jensen's all his life.. if you makes you feel better he said this when I showed him the last pic (holy floor) .... "Thats normal for an Interceptor, it is a big suprise if you ever pull the carpets and they are NOT like that" so your not on your own and its all repairable.. we must remember these cars are now 48 years Old and we all at that age have a bit of rust on our Chassis

Picture quality not great (should have used flash) but new front and rear valences have been fitted, rear wheel arches repaired and most of the the front wings have been done (a bit to do on the offside where wing and valence meet and a chunk of one wheel arch on the near side), so just inner arches, floors, boot and bonnet to go.. Apparently the roof is quite good!

Thanks for posting your photos. Really encouraging to see as I am in a similar position with a mark 3that I am working on. My outer sills will need replacing plus holes and rust in the usual places that I can now see as I have so far removed about 85% of the paint and filer previously used. Did You remove the glass (rear, front, windows, etc.) as that’s likely to be tricky as really aspiring for a good respray. What is your finish colour as looking really smart?. Plus for the two rear side vents that have ‘Jensen’ in chrome lettering - is whole piece supposed to be sprayed black (I have seen those pieces sprayed the car colour) apart from the chrome of course.

I have to admit I'm not doing it: Graham and John at Culverland Classics http://www.culverlandclassics.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; have done all the work. All the glass and chrome as been taken out as part of the appeal of Culverland is that they seem to be at the perfectionist end of the market and in any case there was rot under the rear glass in particular. I really can't recall the colour of the rear vents and it does seem to vary from car to car but who knows what is original? Perhaps a post on the Interceptor Tech forum would secure an answer.
