RESTORATION of Interceptor III, S4 - 2240/1913

Post by R.D. Sigi Herring »

Well, after a late night eBay moment, I recently found myself the proud owner of ....well, I don't know what.
The pictures looked good, and I knew a few people that could help or advise.

eBay images as follows. Sorry for quality, as I've screen dumped from iPad.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Jensen-Interc ... true&rt=nc" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

So, after a quick phone call to the gentleman engineer aka Andy Brookes from Appleyards, a quick plan was hatched.
Meeting in a typically run down village garage in Hampshire, I met Andy with a couple of his chums he has known for some time to do an appraisal of the car, create a plan and put it in action.
After the obligatory handover (cash for the history file) the car was fired up and sounded like a bag of nails. It ran, but a huge hole in an exhaust manifold ensured we couldn't hear much for the next 10 minutes. The interior was tired, mostly intact and barr the nibbled edges of 1x rear seat seemed retrievable. So, a quick lunch seemed in order to finalise the plan.

.....after lunch, it was all agreed.
The chums of Andy (..let's call them John and Graham) would trailer the car back to 'Southampton' to their workshop. There, a full strip would take place and the Tranny / engine combination removed. Andy would come down with the bodywork repair panels, and take the tranny / engine back to 'Middle Earth' for rebuilding.

Most of you will know Andy Brookes, and I personally appreciate his rare and valuable quality of "...keeping it real".
Thank goodness for common sense.

But, you may ask, who are this wonder duo from Hampshire?

Well, they used to work for themselves many years ago.....in a company know as the "Jencentre", or something similar.
Until recently, they also did significant work on Jensens at another well know "Jensen Specialist" in Hampshire. Sub contract, or employees isn't really important.

I will let their work speak for itself, and this forum can be an unbiased outlet for you to judge for yourself.

What I can say is these 2x boys know seriously loads about producing exquisite work, and much of their handiwork has been seen in the recent past. If this is important to you, search the forum for recently completed Mk1 Interceptors and look for the best.

Anyway, they've now got together and looking at the MG from Switzerland they're working on...boy, what fabulous work.
And now I find 99P (as she's known) in the company of another almost perfect and untouch Interceptor being rebuilt, and a CV8.

Cannot wait so start getting the updates.

Had a call yesterday.
John / Graham on the phone and the wings are shagged (sorry, engineering term.....U/S)
So 2x news wings needed. B£gger.

Having given me the good news, John also managed to send some photo's.
I had to wince when I saw the damage the little furry nibblers has caused over the years.
New seats required too it seems.
