Thanks guys, it probably took best part of 2 days, but was my first time using a 4 jaw chuck, boring to an accurate size and cutting a keyway.
I have now ordered some more tooling for the lathe that will be easier to work with and reduce labour time, so I reckon I could make another in 8 -10 hours with the new tooling and experience gained on this part.
I only polished it for fun and that only took ½ hour.

It was very enjoyable and I kept coming in late for tea because I was having so much fun, not sure what im going to make next but my daughters home now and she is going to make a machinists hammer so I will be passing on some skills next.

Very impressive. Perhaps you should now install a clear cowl so that you can show off the good work!

More progress, the metalwork is almost complete now with new n/s/r 1/4 panel, inner and outer rear valances and n/s chassis tube repair and covers fitted. Not sure when it will be finished though with the current lockdown.

Not really a problem as I have lots to do with all the parts removed from the car, this afternoon was spent making some new front hub nuts as these are not available for FF’s. Only a small part but it wont hold me up later in the restoration.

[Note by Moderator VFK44 : The posts not directly relating to restoration of FF 119/133 have now been moved to two different threads in General Discussion - "sheds and workshops" and "Machine Tools"]
Sheds: https://www.joc.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=29953
Machine Tools: https://www.joc.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=30690

I think the two are sufficiently different to deserve two topics.

Another milestone reached today as I now have a solid shell and have had some time to start cleaning it up.

I have owned the car for about 5 years now and thought it would be finished by now but at least its moving in the right direction. Various people have been welding this car over the last 20 years whilst it has been in bits, some of it was good and some had to be cut out and done properly but now it is all good.
Todays task was to strip the epoxy primer from the front end back to bare metal as it had been on long before I bought the car and is ready for a new protective layer, my plan is to clean and paint underneath and rebuild the front and rear suspension before it goes for paint as a rolling shell.

Im really pleased with the new handmade bonnet skin.

That's so cool Dave, well done, there is something so cool(for me) seeing bright bare metalwork, it looks so good, I also like seeing them in primer when blocked downImage,.. That bonnet fits really well Dave, follows the top wing contour spot-on.. You wouldn't have got that from Robeys.. Wicked stuff Mr ManImage

Thanks Grant, I really like to see the bare metalwork too, but it will look even better when painted in its original Stratophere Blue.

I need to clean and paint underneath it next but cant bring myself to do another just yet.

Very interesting thread Dave great to see the car getting TLC. It's always great to see what the panels look like under the paint, the joints, how they have aged. I never tire of looking at the factory seam along the top 3/4s of FF front wings. Please keep the photos coming! As well as the bonnet I like the look of your lower front valance at the corners which is presumably new as that is often the first to go. Now you have cleaned the front to bare metal, I will be interested to know about the choice of protective layer. Will you do it, is it going on soon, etc?
