Engine removal on track.

6 hours to get to this point.

Next up is trailer the car to my workshop. Get it up on ramps and undo all the final bits. Then hoist the heart out.

Tuesday is D day :D

Good luck, it’s a bit smaller than a 440 so should come out a bit easier.
Quick question, why?

Well done EddieMan :P
You can change that pulley on the Alternator to a single pulley as well Eddie, before you put it back on you can have pulleys and bolts etc yellow passivated, its quite a cheap thing to have done too, it makes them look really original... but sadly that bloody finish doesn't really last, or powder coat which last for ever and is also really cheap to have done, I have a box load of pulleys and brackets done and its only ever £100 or so, cheap as chips I think,
Why is Tuesday "D" day Steady Eddie? :D ... Take your time and Hurry Up Fast Eddy :P

Might as well drop the sump and check the bottom end as well, check the crank seals and check the sump for any nasties.

Hi Eddie,

When I did mine, it came out really easily, eventhough everybody had said be careful because of the weight, I was still surprised at just how heavy it is. You'll need to get it either on a stand or a trolley, as once on the floor you're not going to move it, or even shuffle it around. Mine is now dismantled to it's constituent parts, and I still cant shift the block on my own. I made a bracket to bolt on the inlet manifold, out of 2 pieces of Dexion shelving, with 2 threaded 1/2" rods joining them together and then hooked the block & tackle to these. I screwed the rods to both sides of the Dexion, to help stop them colapsing in with the weight.
Good luck mate, and let us know how you get on.

I normally go and help myself to a skate at the back of most supermarkets, they use them to take all the metal hand held baskets that used to be in the supermarkets for carrying your shopping in, when they stack them high they normally put them into a metal skate, I always seem to find them out the back by the delivery area... and they're chrome :D :P .. a piece of ply over the top and you're good to go :P ... but obviously if you want to work on the engine get an engine stand then you can swivel it to get to the sump  ... I guess I am stating the obvious here though

Thanks for all the suggestions on jobs to do.

Kev I see what you did with your bracket and liked your take on the lifting point. I have some lifting straps and will be going around the manifolds for my lift. Am hoping I have done the lions share of the work now.

Grant, Tuesday is D day has I have a relatively quite day at work, and I am trailering the car to work to do it there. Plenty of space and lifting kit at the factory, also have skates so will be straight onto one of them. The car will go back home to have the engine bay worked on and I will leave the engine at work. I am thinking of getting most fixing chemically blackened. I do like the yellow chrome finish but like you say it dulls quite quickly.

Dunc, Has the engine bay is body colour I wouldn’t mind keeping it like that if it cleans up really well. If not I will be going down the stone chip route.

It looks bright body colour, but wrong for the car imho, you are getting everything else right bit by bit this would crown it,

All went well thanks Grant. Pleased with the result. Nothing broken and all bolts accounted for :D

Dunc I think I am coming around to the black stone chip engine bay. I hear where you are coming from and makes sense to go back to original :D
