Change of season so it must be change of car time
I have a draw for a tuning project and all that was required was an early 440 at the right price and "come on down" the price was right and it's a genuine SP, can't be bad 8) .
So here is my 64000 miles from new 4 owner SP, running on a thermoquad at present (that'll go).
All I can say is it has been owned by a farmer for the last 17 years and he recalls cleaning it "some time before 2009" and it has bags of "character". The interior is completely original, the 8 track works and the panel fit is superb. The engine bay was last cleaned in 1972  . It also has enough fertilizer in and around it to do our flower beds, twice  .
So give it a good service and a few tweeks (turning it into an EP for a start) and watch out it should be rumbling around the country.
Oh that means I have a spare Jensen, e series anyone ?

You ought to update your signature to:

Never trust a man who, when left in a room on his own with an Interceptor, doesn't try to buy it.
"Now that chassis number is particularly interesting ‘cos it’s the one after the one before, which is the one after mine, not many people know that"

I'm trying to give it up but sometimes the urge is too strong

Anyway I did well it's not an Interceptor

Andrews?

as you say, thats a nice original car, pretty much untouched (quite literally as you point out) and a good buy.
Did he tell you the Peanut butter story?

Wasn't for me, really didn't want to be doing any big jobs, i'm in a tinkering stage of my life.....

Not sure about the gearbox though, presume you trailered it home? I know Andrew said it wasn't keen to change up to third.
I only tried it up the lane, didn't really go fast enough for third.
It may respond to an oil and filter change do you think?

What did you get him down to on price?

Finally got a chance to take the FP for a spin today to see what's what. Outcome is, it needs a good service (8 cylinders would be nice all the time), The Carpenters are a bit rubbish (only 8 track that works), it's very "tight", it doesn't leak, everything works, it smells like farm, the 440 sounds different to a 383, the ventilation fan needs a bit of oil, the gearbox needs a service, a 440 SP engine (when in need of a service) uses fuel like a Churchill Tank (£20 from Redruth to Falmouth and back), strangely it doesn't leak a drop of any fluids (I must check the levels).
So I'm a happy bunny, plus the interior is beyond fantastic and I'm now wondering what to do because if I clean it up too much I may destroy some " character". Bless it

Two thinks you need - a Cream 8 track and a six pack. Suspect the 8 track may be slightly cheaper.

An SP driven carefully will do just short of 20 to the gallon. An evening of stress relief around the Cotswolds using all six barrels will give 6

One thing worth seriously considering is taking the wife on a romantic holiday to New England this Autumn. While there visit Jim's Auto Parts and come back with a new six pack setup. If you are too honest like me then get your wife to declare some of the stuff and you others (I came back from New England with a pair of Edelbrock heads for my SP in the suitcase, one mine and one Sarah's :D ).

See http://www.jimsautoparts.com/mopar_performance_fuel.htm

The other option would be to go to California and brink back a six pack fuel injection system from Bruce Bridges

I suspect the fuel issue is due to a service and tune up needed. I have a six pack lined up but that'll will find its' way into the corner of no return (but in the boot if I sell it) because of my little plan.
What this old girl needs is a dual quad set up, so that'll make it an EP (but with a six pack air grabber). The idea of the driver having control of the CFM suits me and with the large bore headers and exhaust should give it a bit of poke
NOS next

There is only one problem, this car is very original.

If you end up with a 'spare' six pack you want rid of Mark, give me a shout please.
I wouldn't mind a spare for when mine needs anything in the future.

After a bit of research (thanks ChrisR) and thinking time (with thinking juice) I've decided the best place for the 6 pack is sat on top of the engine, I may convert it to mechanical rather than vacuum opening (on outer carbs) so it'll be an SP again. 8)

By North I mean Exeter and the start of 'The Big Road' !

Well it's doing its' work as a normal car and except for its' owner being a complete plonka (locked the crooklock thingy then realised the key was 10 miles away  ) it's doing fine. Oil changed in engine and box and all is good in 1972 Jensen world. So let the fun begin
