Decided to remove the aftermarket steering wheel and fit a standard steering wheel I have got recently after refurbishing it, I prefer the feel of a thinner rim as the other one feels too modern.

Looking good! I love the look of the original steering wheel, it just goes with the interior really, really well.

Whilst the cars not being used over winter a few additional jobs have been carried out along with its annual service, first an annoying failure of a new wiper wheel box fitted only a few years ago. This entailed partially stripping the insulation from the bulkhead and removing the fan ducting to get at it not a 5 minute job.
I have also replaced all the fuel lines from the tank to carb with 100% ethanol proof hose, the old pipes were only a few years old but its not worth taking any risks.
Next job is to machine polish the paintwork, I have tried a test area on the bonnet and was pleased with the differance it made although I need a slighter more aggresive cutting compound.
The photo shows the polished area on the left and unpolished paintwork on the right, it was a bit daunting to attack my paintwork with a machine polisher for the first time but hopefully I can bring back the gloss and remove a few small scratches that really are only seen very close with a good light.

Not suprised by the attention to detail Dave.
Guess that whats sets your restoration above most.
Think I might be asking you to do the fuel lines on mine sooner than later..

The fuel line is braided 100% ethanol proof hose part number SSFUHO8ET from car builder solutions, I have used them in the past with no problems but this order should have been next day delivery and took 2 weeks.Jorrocks wrote:May I ask what hose you’re using and where you bought it from?

Finally got to machine polish the car, its been nearly 7 years since it was painted so a few small scratches and marks have appeared over time.
As I have not done this before I took it easy and used a medium cutting hexlogic pad with Sonax perfect finish cutting/polish and a rotary machine.
Im very happy with the results the paint finish had become slightly cloudy and this has completely gone bringing back the deep shine with many small scratches and swirl marks gone also.
The car is now also running great with the original cast inlet manifold replaced with an Edelbrock manifold and the exhaust manifolds have been machined and refitted with copper gaskets.
Hopefully I will get plenty of use out of the car this year now it is looking and running great.

I hear and see a number of posts about the black material on the underside of the hood and top of the inner fender wells as being a different pattern. The material is hardura. Much used in Jaguars etc. I used it I. My Interceptor knowing the pattern was different but being correct as far to weather as the material. It looks great to all but those who know the slight differenc. I actually coavered the undercoated area binding the edges and weatherproofing the first under inch then black rubber caulking the edges for weather proofing the appearance being consistent and clean. Another milestone reached yesterday on the return from Hampton Court Concours, managed to get the clock back round to all the noughts. Unfortunately it was on a twisty dark country lane so had to pull over for a photo at next layby.
I like cars that get used so see it as a good thing it has been round the clock and in reality it has done less than 20,000 miles since its complete restoration so its got plenty more miles left in it.

, Nice one Dave, I hope you had fun at Hampton Court and clocking up those miles. Did you see Gary? Has he lost any weight yet, I was thinking of fitting a Mile'Ometer to my boots, not the ones I wore to your house, another pair, I have now fitted new uppers and soles, but am still on the original laces..they are like new now
