Re: My 541R engine on the dyno
I'm a bit confused by one of the pictures.
Whenever I have researched engine heat distribution I have read that about 25, maybe up to about 28% of the heat energy from the petrol goes into driving the car at the rear wheels and the rest, 72 - 75%, goes into wasted heat divided about equally between the exhaust and the cooling system.
What puzzles me is that if there is enough heat going into the exhaust to make it glow red then it seems that there is a huge excess of heat energy that is not being used for driving and is being wasted through the exhaust.
Was there any measuring of how much fuel energy was being input to the engine during these tests and where that energy was being dissipated?

Wonderful looking engine Joerg, where do the manifolds and carburettors come from?

Carburettor are SU HS6 ( new from Burlen ) and the manifolds are made on my 5 axis CNC machine.

Did you machine up some forms for the manifolds and then get them cast?Joerg wrote:Carburettor are SU HS6 ( new from Burlen ) and the manifolds are made on my 5 axis CNC machine.
It is a gorgeous looking engine. Seems like it was a great idea to send the engine off to those guys. I want a 541 now, as if I hadn't wanted one for the past 20 years. FFs just kept getting in the way.
Have you seen our stolen Jensen FF 119/011 https://twitter.com/jensenffdotcom

Casting was far too expensive so I machined then and afterwards they are media blasted.
