Hi guys - it’s time for my Jensen to get a full down to the metal restoration. Don’t want to ship back to the uk. Don’t really want to spend more than $40k. Am I dreaming? Any recommendations for someone trustworthy ideally on east coast of US.

I'm not one to crush dreams. If you pull it off, let us know how you did it.

Assuming you are referring to an Interceptor? As with any car it all depends on how much rust there is and where in the country you are. :)

I'm confused by the terms you use in your post. What exactly do you mean by "full down to the metal restoration"? Are you talking about a stripping body to metal, doing rust repair and getting a good paint job (external, door jabs, inner doors, etc.) or a "FULL RESTORATION" including mechanical, interior, etc.

If the first I would say if your car doesn't have much rust (usually not the case) and/or prior poor damage repairs you might have a shot at pulling it off for $40K or less at a high quality shop. If you add in mechanical rebuilds, new trim, carpets, etc. you could easily double that mount.

Sorry to pop your bubble but I've done to many restorations over the years to know what's involved is such a major undertaking. My advise to most old car lovers is to buy the best you can afford as I've found it's cheaper to buy it up front instead of restore it on your dime.

I’ve owned the car for 15 years - engine runs just fine, bodywork is probably not great and interior veneers and leather, carpet need replacing. Want to do vintage air air conditioning. Guess the simple question I’m asking is can someone recommend a good garage on the east coast of the USA.

Looks pretty nice! I hope you plan on removing the Trim Line molding! That is riveted on. What state are you in? :)

Your door and tailgate gaps look perfect. Really nice car as it is. Few shops could put it back as it is. Fewer would do it for 40K. There is an ex Rolls Royce veneer guy (ex MPW I think) in the UK who you could send panels to, just say sort these out as you think best. There are people who work wonders tidying up old leather, and great carpet suppliers. I would just go for fixing those items, and localised repairs to any other damage you find.

That is a really great looking car!

What part o the States are you in? I know a few shops that have at least dealt with Interceptors in the past.

Good luck with the project.
