September - Joerg Huesken's Hemi powered early Intereptor

Post by zacmarshall »

This is Joerg's early Interceptor, now back on British soil, being unloaded at Derek Chapman's.

After much negotiation, a trip to Canada, and arranging the shipping, 1955 early Interceptor INT363464, the only existing early Interceptor that was fitted with a Chrysler Firepower 331ci Hemi V8 engine has returned to European soil!

The car was placed into a container and travelled first by train from Vancouver to Montreal, where it was placed aboard the "MSC Alyssa" Cargo ship for it's journey across the Atlantic to Liverpool. Derek collected the car from Liverpool on Monday 20th August and it now sits safely alongside his 1952 early Interceptor Cabriolet, INT123235.

Initial plans for the car are to get it registered, roadworthy and through it's MOT. Then, if everything is ok, the car will be driven almost 800 miles to Germany to it's new owner, Joerg Huesken.

Unfortunately, the car sustained a little damage to the bonnet during transit, but nothing that can't be put right.

The car has survived in remarkably good condition during the last 57 years in Canada and has never been restored. Apart from the new damage to the bonnet, the rest of the panels are surprisingly straight and the chassis seems solid (at least as far as I can tell so far!)

Derek went for a ride in the car whilst in Kelowna, Canada, and says that it's certainly quicker than his 4 litre Interceptor!

I'm sure the car will become a frequent sight at events in coming years.

Excellent!
I'm very jealous.....
Is the engine supposed to sound as it does on the you tube clip?
Or is it an exhaust blow?

It would be good to see a few pictures of the interior too.

The exhaust is a quick Canadian DIY job.
That will be altered to something much more silent, deep and mellow ( more RR than racecar)

Excellent.
Don't forget to tell us what that chromium plated cylinder is on the bulkhead.

The cylinder is an oil tank, more details to come.

Hi Joerg,
congratulations to this really exotic car. I was sure the tangerine Interceptor would get an interesting successor but the early Interceptor (especially this one) is a real surprise.
Good - no, better  - luck

What has happened to the orange Interceptor - is it salvageable?

Here it is, on the top of FF 187.

Lots of parts were missing on my convertible and they were both from august/october 1974, so it was really usefull.
