Hello, none of the 541 variants have a fuel pump above the tank. Can you send a photo of the type of pump that you are looking for? Alternatively if you let us know your chassis number, I can tell you what pump you should have, it may not be the same as what you are expecting!

Cheers for now

I have some double 12V SU-pumps. I can rebuild them with dual polarity with points and transil or pos. earth electronic, low pressure 1,8psi spec. for under bonnet fitting or high pressure 3,8psi for fitting near the petrol tank.
In the 541 the double SU pump is originally fitted in the front of the engine compartment, not really recommended for obvious reasons. Alternatively you could position the pump somewhere near the bulkhead or in/under the boot near the petrol tank.
Points system has the advantage that, if needed, it can be easily serviced at the roadside using a strip of fine wet&dry. If the electronic pump stops there is usually nothing that you can do. In rare instances you may be able to get it going again by fiddling with the adjustable "fork" under the Bakelite caps

Thanks Kees, however the original 541 (not 541R) has a camshaft driven mechanical pump, hence my need to confirm the chassis number to be able to answer the question correctly. Obviously both these possibilities are not located above the fuel tank!

Hi Dave,
I know that the various types of 541 had different fuel pumps, but I did not know that only the R had the electrical SU-pump.
Cheers,
Kees

Do you mean the fuel reserve solenoid that fits on top of the fuel tank?
