A 16W is the correct model. It looks like it's got the correct parking switch. I think they can have different cogs inside for different throw so check it's got the right one.

I've also seen 14W models being used. Is there any clearity on which Int used what model Lucas wiper motor?
(Im asking, because theres a 16W installed on my early 1967 car, but it looks very new. want to confirm its the correct type)
Found a Vignale built LHD MK1 in South Africa, Sincar #15, chassis 117/2592.
On a long and winding road to restore it back to original condition.

I'm don't know the difference between the 14W and the 16W. I seem to remember being told the sweep of the wiper on the Interceptor is unique. I think that is controlled by the number of teeth on the cogs inside the motor. What is needed is a two speed wiper with a reverse park operation. I replaced the original 16W on my Mk2 a couple of years ago so for the Mk2 at least I would guess the 16W is original equipment. The story on this one is written in Richard Calvers Original Interceptor book.
The first cars - in general, those made in Italy and in England soon after - came with a wiper parking system that left the passenger side wiper parked in the drivers line of vision. By January 1967 Lucas had been tasked with developing a self-parking motor which would obviate complaints on this score. The new wiper motor found its way into production from early 1967 and the earlier type is now unlikely to be encountered because of retrofits. The Vignale LHD builds for Sincar show wipers parking to the right instead of the left. This may have been a consequence of the problems with the early self-parking motors

Thanks Chris. I'll ask Richard or Ulric about some more specifics. Good to know that the wipers are supposed to park on the right hand side, even on a left hand vehicle. Will be very weird in operation by the way, but an original experience :D

I do not agree with the wiper parking on the right side on LHD cars !
On the enclosed pic of my car it's clearly seen that they are parked towards the left side.

I think Richard's comment regarding parking on the right for LHD cars is specific only to the early LHD Mk1 cars for Sincar. After that they got it fixed and parked correctly for RHD and LHD.
@Stig - where is the wiper motor fitted on your car?

Same place as RHD car although that side is of course then the passenger side. I wonder what is different to get them to park the opposite way.

Hi all,
Always worth keeping an eye on this website. NOS MOD motors come up occasional for £50. They are supposed to be genuine Lucas 16w 75721, which I'm sure are they same as on my MkII.
Might be worth giving them a call.
