Re: Bonnet
Hi George,
I have sent you a pm.
I forgot to mention, I have it on very good authority that a Mark 3 bonnet also fits a Mark 1 and a Mark 2.
David.

Re: Bonnet
Hi Timbo,
The bonnet is still for sale, it is solid and rust-free and it has been here in dry storage since 2014 (I've been having a lock-down clear-out).
However it has some slight undulations on the surface as a local restorer with no previous Jensen experience thought it would be a good idea to have it sand-blasted to get the paint off - we parted company soon afterwards.
Expensive lesson learned - don't let anyone touch your Jensen unless they have worked on one before.

Re: Bonnet
A Mk3 will fit a Mk2, but I think not a Mk1 without changing the location of the bonnet catches.

Re: Bonnet
I can only go on what I was told by perhaps the most respected Jensen bodywork expert in the country when I rang to ask him the specific question of whether a Mark 3 bonnet would fit a Mark 1 or a Mark 2 car.
His exact response (which I wrote down at the time) was "Of course it will, it's exactly the same bonnet".

Re: Bonnet
The shape is of course the same (almost), it's to do with the latches. Mk2 & Mk3 have handed latch positions for LHD and RHD cars. You should be able to see that on the bonnet you have.
Mk1 cars don't have that and the latch mountings are in a different position so Mk3 (and Mk2) bonnets are not easily interchangeable to Mk1's (and vice versa from Mk1 to later cars) without modifying the bonnet frame.

Re: Bonnet
Chris, are you saying: A Mk2 or Mk3 Bonnet from a Uk car will not fit a Uk Mk1 Car then?..if so I never knew that and have sold a Mk2 Bonnet from a Uk car to a chap who has a Mk1, so I need to let him know if that is the caseChris_R wrote: ↑Thu Jun 10, 2021 5:47 pm The shape is of course the same (almost), it's to do with the latches. Re: Bonnet
On a Mk1 both bonnet catches are equally spaced in the car. On a Mk2 and a Mk3 heater box gets in the way of one of the catches so on a RHD the left catch is moved outboard and on a LHD car the right catch is moved outboard. I think the problem more affects taking a Mk1 bonnet and trying to fit it to a later car. All I'm saying is there are differences and as always, fitting should be checked, the fitting of the catches to the bonnet frame may need adjustment.
