That is brilliant info Grant. Looking again, it is interesting to see that they sand the old vinyl back a little rather than removing it completely, apply new foam, quite special foam, then spraying on the contact adhesive, before vacuum forming the vinyl over. Lots of trial and error were required to get to that level of skill I bet. Lots of room for errors in final dimensions in that process, and for things not to fit. Thankfully the Jensen dash frame is fibreglass so it doesn't shrink and warp like those in some cars! Labour intensive even with the right tools hence around $1500. I don't see this ever being a cheap process! These vacuum benches are used sometimes in carbon fibre production. It looks like a Russian guy has made his own vacuum bench. A nice touch is that he supports the edges of the vinyl with elastic to get it more even as it is pulled on. https://youtu.be/P4hr0lHjKc8
Here is a more modern machine process that is interesting https://youtu.be/-gcNZz27SJg

As an aside, about a year ago Jason Lawrence of REJEN fame showed me a retrimmed MK1 FF dash they'd retrimmed - with matching binnacles etc. Looked fantastic to my eyes.

It was probably for one of the JIA cars StuPot, I know Jason was responsible for the interiors of the JIA ones that look like the Mk1's inside..they are a much easier dash to cover than the Mk2/3 ones though..Kind Regards from Vaccinated Grant

🤣😁 I suspected you might be involved in that. What is really interesting is customising a dash layout then getting THAT covered like stock one!
