Complete, sympathetically refreshed, original MK1 Interior

Post by Mark1Stu »

I personally think this must be about the last opportunity to purchase an original leather interior of this quality. Although I am happy to be proven wrong.

The rear seat base and back is in stunning condition. All four attachment studs to the rear seat back are present and unbroken. Try removing the two situated in the wheel arches without breaking them. Good luck!

The rear side cards are not ripped or shrivelled. As perfect as you'll find. The front door cards with period speakers stand close scrutiny too. As good as you'll find I would say. If you prefer door cards without speakers, I have a pair you can have instead.

I hesitate to say the passenger front seat is perfect (as I have a stunning original one I shall be selling separately) but it has great leather, detail, and profile. The driver's seat back is perfect, the base is lightly patinated from use.

Similar to looking at rechromed door handles off the car, you can pick up areas of imperfection (it is 50 year old leather which I have chosen not to fill - not that it needed it - nor over restore, resulting in loss of leather grain and general patination), but wrapped up inside a car with new carpets I believe would look stunning. More than that, a proper Jensen interior which I think could only be matched by a high end retrim toward £10k.

£3650.

I have seat runners. I also have a pair of extremely nice chrome seat hinges for an additional £200. Although the ones on the seats in the pictures are acceptable.

Should anyone be interested, I would want you to view the seats before buying.

Pictures to follow.

Lovely job there Stu. Excellent attention to detail - and well presented. If I was in the market I'd snap your hand off = a few hours with the spanners and you'd have a beautifully original interior all installed, ready to go.

Good luck with the sale.

Update:

I've had 4 people interested in buying the whole interior with an intention to view over many months, but alas no visits to view/purchase. During this period, I decided to swap the base of the handed driver's seat with another I had as it offered even better shape than the one in the original pictures. The revised driver's seat is shown (on the left) with the original passenger seat in the picture below. The rest of the interior remains as before.

I also have a beautiful additional passenger seat (which a previous owner had adapted by drilling different holes in the metal base to allow it to be used as a driver's seat - to do so again would require a change of seat hinges, which I have). This seat is shown on its own in the subsequent picture and is for sale separately.

I've decided to have one more go at selling the whole interior via the forum and subsequently on eBay. I'll add the eBay link here once I've done it.

If the whole interior doesn't sell, I've decided not to split it (with the exception of the separate passenger seat) and will store them safely for another year!

Regards.

Stuart

Thanks again guys.

Sadly I haven't an FF passenger seat Dunc. But I don't mind refurbishing one to match (assuming the existing leather is saveable - but I could arrange for sections of the leather to be replaced prior to refurbishing). But Id prefer to sell it as is - not least because I must finish my Mk3's interior now Colin Holley has finished painting the car.

Once the MK3 is finished I shall sell my spare MK3 interior (which I haven't used for the resto).....and then my wife can have the spare bedroom back!
