Mk II Interceptor and FF MkII & III stainless steel bumpers.

Post by Frankoid »

I am having MkII Interceptor and FF stainless steel 3 piece front bumper made for myself from my original pattern. Does anyone else want a set?

The price is £500. This is for the front bumper with overriders only. I am expecting my bumpers soon. When I get them I will post pictures of them.

I have the first batch of bumpers. I am very happy with them. The thick marine grade stainless steel is smoothly polished and the fixings are the correct type. See photos.

That looks super! Well done. Interesting that someone can make something in stainless to such quality without any guarantee of volume - or was it not commercial and something you did yourself?

The MkI bumpers look similar but are totally different from the MkII. Early MkII Interceptors had this type of MkII bumpers, the later MkIIs had MkIII type. All the FFMkII and MkIII had this type of MkII bumpers, if that makes sense :)

It is not a commercially viable venture, as it has a very limited market. I figure less then 500 cars had these bumpers, and most people are happy with their originals. So only a handful will be made, but more can be made if wanted. I had rotten bumpers and have had bad experiences with chromers in the past. It seems a logical choice to have stainless steel bumpers made, which match the sills, exhaust pipes and rear window surrounds at a cheaper cost than chrome plating where top quality cannot be assured. And get to keep the original bumpers for posperity into the bargain! I am happy with the results I am now having the unique and currently unavailable rear bumpers with Altissimo cut outs made :D , Thanks Grant for all your invaluable help and support :D

They look really nice. Do you know how they are made? Are they pressed? Were they hammered out by hand? Cut and welded to shape?
Has it always been feasible to make bumpers like this? As they are hand built surely they could copy Vignale Mk1 centre sections... Very interesting!

All of the above. I think the only difference between the Vignale and Jensen centre sections is the squared off corners, I see no reason why this cannot be replicated if required.. ,but I imagine most Vignale Interceptor owners are happy to have ordinary MkI bumpers and keep the originals safe

Hi Frankoid, and Grant,
I’m definitely interested in both a front and rear bumper for an early MkII... I’ve just got hold of a correct replacement front bumper but haven’t had time to fit it yet due to work demands...
If stainless is available I’d definitely prefer that to chromed.

I’ll PM you once I have a moment but please bear me in mind if you’re ordering.

I know, work has just been ridiculous, and I haven’t had the car out for months. I’ve been trying to fit my new front bumper for about three months, and haven’t got any further than removing the old one and laying out the new one with some stainless bolts.
Sounds like a very good time to just order stainless bumpers instead!

Hope to catch up soon,
All the very best
