Interceptor Chassis Number & Registration number on ebay

This sale is just for the front cross member with the chassis number attached and the registration number plates. Seller claims you can then apply for a V5.

Potential for a stolen or rebuilt car to be identified and registered as something else?

What if the VIN corresponds to a vehicle that the DVLA has recorded as written off (which seems likely if only a front crossmember and number plates still exist)?

Surely under those circumstances the value is nil, or close enough to make no difference?

[I should add that I have experience of this, as a few years back I bought an accident damaged vehicle which the seller said was "not recorded" - and they stated as such in writing. I tried to get the DVLA to tell me if it was recorded as a writeoff and they refused to tell me. I bought it. It was...]

Make sure you report it to Ebay, it will soon be removed.

So what happens if the car is not recorded as written off? This is not entirely idle curiosity as I have the chassis plate from an S type which was scrapped before the DVLA existed, so there is no record of it. I was approached recently by somebody who was interested in making a complete replica car, using that plate. It never happened, but is it possible? I don't have a log book of course - just the chassis plate, but there are contemporary photos of the car showing the registration number and it was a well known car at the time.

I imagine the rules are probably clearly stated on the DVLA's website. It's a long while since I last looked, but I recall there being a minimum number of components from the original vehicle before you could "reclaim" its identity, and I doubt that a chassis tag and a pair of number plates would qualify. But I also wouldn't be surprised if there are very naughty people about who would tack said chassis tag onto sundry bits of other car and then swear blind they were all original parts.

Ebay obviously don't think there's an issue, as the listing is still there.

I recently saw a 70s Porsche under restoration and was told it had undergone a change in identity three times- it was on its third chassis number!

People do 'rebuild' historic aircraft around ID plates, I was reading the other day about a group who have dug up the remains of a crashed Mosquito, there wasn't much left of it, but they found a readable ID plate so they know which Mosquito it was and now they plan to rebuild it around the plate (rather like the 'Guy Martin' Spitfire, if you ever saw that TV programme). I'm sure you can't do that for cars though, or if you did it would just be a new car.

Or you could make an Interceptor out of your C-V8

I'm curious about another matter. (Not that I could afford to do it.)
If I wanted a totally new Interceptor, to be built from new parts, including the body shell, could Robey's do it and provide documentation to it
being a completely new car?
That would probably be the only way to get an Interceptor into Indonesia, as imports of used cars are forbidden, (except for diplomats) in order to protect the local car manufacturers, otherwise everyone would be importing used cars from Japan.
As an example of the outrageous cost of fully-imported vehicles here, this 2014 Rolls-Royce Ghost is offered at the equivalent of 803,000 pounds.
