That's not a part I recognise. All the MK1's I've had have the black pull handle.

Hi Stu,

The very early Mk1's (opening Quarter light version) had an Aluminium Bonnet Pull Handle, some times polished sometimes dull like mine, these Pull Handles were a legacy of the Vignale Interceptors.

Thanks,

John

That's interesting John. Felt sure the kingpin opening front quarter light car I had was fitted with the same bonnet release I mentioned. Which was built early 1968 if memory serves.

Just checked Richard Calver's Original Interceptor and FF book and on page 47 there is indeed a picture of the item Shaun refers to.

Good spot Shaun!

Have seen them before here and there but not 10 in NOS condition. even if not fitted originally it's a period Italian part.

Did your car has this release handle then Shaun? Mine (2943) does not have it. It has a black plastic T handle which is supported by a welded tab - this does seem to be original fitment. If the release handle was fitted originally there must be two redundant screw holes visible somewhere, I have not found these.
Next time I am in the shed I will check to see if I can find anything on 2610.
The future ain’t what it used to be.

You'll find it on 2610, 2609 also had this aluminium lever fitted. 2950 has the black plastic one, so everything is original with your cars...

Don't want to put a cat amongst the pigeons, but mine has one, 3067. Always thought it was a nice tactile peice of engineering.

Interesting, as the mounting bracket is welded on and not a quick change. And you don't have the bracket for the plastic release lever or signs of it?

In his book Richard Calver assumes the change point from metal handle to plastic lever in the 2800 serial range (ex factory mid 68) and the 040 serial range on FFs. A later change back to metal handle is not mentioned.

3067 was listed on ebay in July 2010. A photo of the driving position from that listing doesn't show the alloy handle.

Mine has the plastic one as it should have, but I do have an alloy one to fit someday, it was only a cost cutting measure to delete and replace them so I feel I'm giving my car the quality item it was designed with.
