2240-9475 Jensen Interceptor MK111

So that’s a link to a recent FB (Jensen Interceptor Lovers) post about the Jensen Interceptor I own 2240-9475 1974 – and there are some pictures. After 17 years of owning, lots of investments in improvements, its possibly time to let it go as my Jensen itch has been well and truly scratched now.

But it IS a Jensen, and it is not concours! So I’ve spent some time and money to get a fairly detailed appraisal of what it would need for an MOT – and there are three items noted; Windscreen washers, OSR seat belt not returning, and the rear foot brakes are ‘fluctuating’ on the rolling road test. Now I could get these things sorted out (and would be hoping that my 'go to' expert in Witney (who may see this ad :-) would oblige if requested), but I’m not too concerned.

At the MOT garage the car also developed a water leak (think pipe out of rad underneath shown in image 163656) – and it only seemed to happen when the car was warmed up. It really didn’t/doesn’t concern me too much atm as its just another job tbh.

On the pre-mot test there were advisories about a rusty valance (it was like this in 2005 when I bought the car from Andy B@Appleyard !!!), some corrosion around the osr seat belt area (but it had a good prodding and poking and was solid), and very slight play in near side front wheel bearing. The attached pics are all current/recent; in the full shot the bonnet is not closed (in case you wonder why it is up a bit).

Bodywork – it withstands the 5m test (looks good from a short distance away); up close it is not perfect. I have not had the bodywork detailed (yet) to get is to its best, but it is definitely more than presentable! Chrome work again is the same – though the bumpers would be next on my list of optional works to do. IF I was keeping the car I would be looking to invest perhaps £10k and have the bodywork tidied up, chrome rechromed and a few other bits n bobs upgraded. [possibly fuel injection, oil cooler, replacement rads, and modern air conditioning] – ok that lot for £10k could be tight 😊 but those are my next thoughts.

Main things I can think of that have been done in my ownership …
Fuel tank, bushes upgraded to polybushes, upgraded alternator, starter. Electronic fan controllers; replacement/recon steering rack/pump. Fuel pump. Leather all reconnolised/treated….and I think I can say all the electrics are working as they should when last used by me; the AIRCON is not working – but was regassed/tested in 2012 and did work then – but it’s the original system so not worth pursuing I suspect. I also have had adjustable shocks and coil overs on the rear and leaf springs wrapped; ATM the back end is slightly higher (firmer) as I have a garage at bottom of a slope so needed a bit more clearance, but they ideally need to be lowered down a few turns.

Currently there is a bit of trim off (osr speaker) and speaker is disconnected. In the boot the trim is detached but all present, and there are new boot carpets to fit. The parcel shelf is currently detached. These are jobs I have started doing but have not finished (in last 3 years …). The main carpets were all replaced circa 2011 when the leather was restored. Electric ariel works and a cd/radio is installed. Town and country horns, fuel release etc etc all seem fine. Even HRW worked last time I needed it!

I have a lot of information gathered over the years – I pieced together the owner history, I am owner 10 or 11 this link takes you to a picture in mid 90’s when owned by owner circa 6 who had the car fully renovated. http://www.british-steel.org/members/int2-3/int2_3.html

So lots of words – I do NOT want to sell the car on ebay – it is in my view way too good for tyre kickers! (but I would say that as its mine). I would dearly like someone who is passionate about the marque to own it, and ideally use it as I have not used it anywhere near enough (likely cause of the above brake issue, needs use the mechanic said!) …. I would definitely not recommend driving it any great distance without some remedial work (check coolant system for example). I did have at least 5 people private-message me about the car following the facebook post above all ‘interested’, but hand on heart want to sell in/through/via the JOC to someone who knows what they are buying.

In terms of price – I’ve done a bit of asking (of people on this forum for example) and have looked at lots of others and I’ll just position it currently as a five figure sum that starts with ‘2’, NOT ‘1’ or ‘3’. If I achieve a satisfactory price then that is awesome – but if not, it will most likely have the works I’ve mentioned done, inc bodywork etc etc and I may then retest the market with a higher price. ATM it is insured for £30k. My email is grahamjohnwillis@outlook.com, I’m based in Newport, South Wales.

ps - was on forum from long time ago as Welsh Graham but alas my name changed due to email address issues .....
