Is this the new body that was being built. I recall a thread from a guy who was making a complete new shell but can’t find the thread now. Not that I’m in the market for it!

I don't know Adrian. That thought did occur to me also although this is (supposedly) in Hungary and the complete new shell was built in Poland.

The shell for sale was previously identified as 128/4722 , an H series from mid 1972. The original reg was GMB676K but it may now be registered in the UK as MCU 147K. The vendor also had a parts car so there may be a mix of parts/identities available. It previously was unsold at £16k...with some discussion about the cost of transport/VAT/import duties if it were to return to the UK.

The vendor was also trying to sell FF 263 with the shell in the same restored state as the Mk3 which was recorded as a total insurance loss in the UK from, I think, 2003. That failed to sell on ebay at £50k but may have been moved on again by now.

Regarding the comment about VAT/Import duties if it were to come to the UK, I think this will present an interesting case.
Is it a car? Or is it a car part? British Motor Heritage manufacture parts for Mini, Midget & MGB from individual panels up to complete bodyshells. Individual panels and complete bodyshells are listed in different areas of their website. SO, are complete bodyshells regarded as replacement parts?
If it is a car it can be imported into the UK under tariff 9705 as a historic car which attracts zero import duty and 5% VAT.
If it is classified as a car part then it will be classified under tariff 87079090 which attracts VAT of 20% and third country duty of 4%.
I rather suspect it will be the latter as one of the conditions for tariff 9705 is that the vehicle must
in their original state, without substantial changes to the chassis, body, steering, braking, transmission or suspension system and engine. Repairing and restoring is allowed, and broken or worn-out parts, accessories and units can/have been replaced, provided that the vehicle is preserved and maintained in the historically correct condition.
On the current bid of £15,000 this will be an additional £3,600.

That's an interesting point Chris.

It doesn't seem right to me that a UK registered car that just happens to have visited another country (ok for 15 years!) and has no "export marker" with DVLA is charged anything upon its return. I wonder if taxing it (for free) and insuring it, adding the number plates before transporting the shell and most parts back would sway HMRCs opinion on the venture? There's bound to be an official "jobsworth" who messes up that idea. If my everyday car broke down in France and needed to be recovered home, I wouldn't expect to pay taxes on re-entry to UK.

And no you wouldn't pay taxes when your car reentered, clearly it had only been away a short time and in your ownership all the time. Here it is the case that ownership is changing and it is crossing the border as a result and all countries want to extract duties whenever they can!
I think it all depends how long the item has been in another country as to whether it is deemed imported or not. I had to pay import duty (VAT) when I brought my Interceptor back from Jersey where it had been for 40 years. If this is in fact still registered with the DVLA the new owner might get away with it.

They might be interested in the work done on the car abroad, and you may need to pay VAT on that work. I have been asked at the border when returning to Switzerland from Germany whether any work has been done to the car while I was in Germany.

No it is not Jacek's build, aka the Polish Guy. No one has asked him to build another Jensen up to now according to what he is up to on FB.

The Hungarian restoration specialist is listing it. They have done this before when an owner decides it is not cost effective to fully finish the car, or for whatever other reason.

Search the forum for Jensen restoration Hungary. Some of us (not me) have also sold their cars to collectors in Hungary.
