CV8 (for the brave)
CV8 (for the brave)
Clearly very rusty under the fibreglass but it’s complete, with low ownership.

Re: CV8 (for the brave)
This is one of the two C-V8s that were found with a horde of other classic cars in a field in Surrey, the other was 2397. The register records 3 owners before the seller acquired the car and there is a big gap between owner No. 2 in 1971 and owner No. 3 by 2005, though I do know that owner No. 3 acquired 2397 in around 1989 so he could have acquired this one around the same time. This car had done over 30,000 miles by the late 1960s so it's unlikely that it has only done 33,000 miles now.
I have never seen a C-V8 steering wheel that has lost it's wooden rim!

The first non-experimental Mk 2 and built for the Earls Court show according to Mr Calver. Reg number 35 GUC..a transferable number according to the owner on facebook.
Re: CV8 (for the brave)
You can see from the last photo that the floors are in a very bad way, and if it's been field stored for years, everything at the bottom is likely to be in the same state. £10k is expensive for a parts car, IMO.
Also odd that the seller says that the plate is transferable but doesn't state the reg. I wonder why it was taken off the road in the 1970's?

What a gorgeous side project for someone who perhaps already has a roadworthy Jensen. I think it needs the patient care of an owner/restorer/saint this one. What is interesting to see is how thin the wheel rim is past the spokes, and the fillet at the end of the spokes as they join the thin section. That must be teh secret to the beautiful join between the wood and the spokes. Also a perfect opportunity to digitise the shape of the wheel for laser cutting/duplication! Here is the steering wheel restoration thread for those who missed it!John Staddon wrote: ↑Tue Oct 12, 2021 8:50 am I have never seen a C-V8 steering wheel that has lost it's wooden rim!

I agree completely it is expensive! I don't see it as a parts car though in the way that a MK3 Interceptor left out might arguably be, as the chassis and all panels would need renewing on that. With this you have something solid body wise to start with, and major brackets and hopefully parts of chassis to reconstruct from. One of those 10 year, why did I start this sort of projects we all love so much! In fact, if I had a barn somewhere and a few horses, I would buy it and stick it in the corner and get pleasure walking past it as it is every day.

Aren't we delightfully weird?

Re: CV8 (for the brave)
Speculation on my part, but the rear offside wheel/axle looks to have parted company with the chassis. If so, you'll need expert help.
Either a good welder or psychiatrist. Perhaps both.

Re: CV8 (for the brave)
I've seen this before where the top leaf of the spring rots through from the top and breaks under load particularly when the car has been standing in damp conditions. This is all that is holding the two ends of the spring to the car. Dragging it out of a field could easily cause the axle to shift backwards as the spring leaves move relative to each other. Add another £600 to the restoration bill for new springs and all will be well! Keep the professionals and psychiatrist on speed dial though....
Re: CV8 (for the brave)
I know the owner that owned it for past god knows how many years..he had so many cars and is always Txt'ding me asking if he can leave some here on our land, but I guess he has finally let go of this CV8 and now the next owner is getting rid.
Everyone's Barmy, it's normal, I'll be getting some horses too John so that I can see my Cars..God knows why I have never thought of that before!!

Was this part of Travelling Wilbury's open-air collection?
Re: CV8 (for the brave)
What on earth is wrong with you lot? This post should be in "For Idiots Only". I some times have trouble (not much) understanding Jonnny Wilde's replies but this last about horses in barnes with clapped out tarp dwellers (for that is where they will go eventually) had me troubled. Johhny W. is dreaming about the green, green grass, perpetual sunshine, a small pub within walking distance and a lottery win. Also a phone call from Grant every day. These field wrecks deserve to be given a decent burial. Instead i suspect some one with romance and drama in his soul will buy them and store them for the next romantic to come along. Let them go for God's sake. I suspect the fibreglass has had it and that will be a major cost on top of what will be a never ending project that a pro would baulk at. The present owner should be paying you to remove them. Take up train spotting. The hours are better. Kenny38
