Mk111 Interceptor
Re: Mk111 Interceptor
Now off to auction.

It would seem they bailed out rather than spend more money on air-con.
Nonetheless, it’s had a lot of money spent on it and it will be interesting to see how much it commands at auction during these uncertain and cost of living squeeze (for many!) times.

Re: Mk111 Interceptor
An excellent business decision. They were unlikely to recoup the cost. New owners also like something straightforward that they can do to improve the car. I hope they come onto the forum before commissioning the aircon work!

I suspect a better business decision by those involved in Salvage Hunters Classic Car Restoration would’ve been not to restore the car in the first place.
I should know. Anyone want to buy a barn find Volvo 240 with lots of new parts..

"Incredible, no expense spared restoration"
Apart from the air con already mentioned and the poor door handles perhaps?
No doubt Drew Pritchard had an opinion on the "look" and may explain why the details like the grill and wheels are less than original. The devil, however is in the detail and some aspects are disappointing (although they did fix the passenger interior door handle!).
Nuts and penny washers to hold the parcel shelf in? Screws holding the fusebox closed and twisted wire securing the brake fluid reservoir hoses....come on!

It may be me.....or just the angle or lighting of the photo or the non original grill etc but the front somehow doesn't look right to me....too much of the undercarriage exposed or valence too short. Any one have a view?

Re: Mk111 Interceptor
They have painted the headlight surrounds and grill but have not removed the paint from the leading edges.
So easy to remedy with a file and with the other items that have been highlighted it makes you wonder what else they have taken short cuts on.

That's a Mk2 bottom Valance Peter isn't it, notice the air intakes on the corners and also yes it's too short, (nothing wrong with being too short though I always tell Lara that!!) /high up, you can see it is in all the pics of the car Poxy Ole ThingPeter Rothery wrote: ↑Fri Mar 25, 2022 8:02 pm It may be me.....or just the angle or lighting of the photo or the non original grill etc but the front somehow doesn't look right to me....too much of the undercarriage exposed or valence too short. Re: Mk111 Interceptor
The valence has the air intakes in the corners of the opening...you are correct... but according to Dickie Calver this is about right for this early MK3 car as it crossed-over from the Mk2...even though the interior footwell vents were eliminated by that time.

INT 4848
This is not intended as criticism because 4848 is one of the factory demonstrators and is deserving of sympathetic treatment.
From those photos, the wipers might be parked to the wrong side (unless they just stopped there when switched off). The scalloped bumper is not original to this car (but hardly important). Air intakes in the valance are correct (up to the J-series). Tyre tread pattern resembles the original Dunlop SP Sport, so maybe they sourced the "correct" rubber. Not a fan of Dumbo mirrors (car had no mirrors when new). The twisted wires, screws, nuts, bolts and washers don't inspire confidence but are all fixable.
People underestimate the amount of work (and level of expertise) required to return a car to "new" condition. The requirements (in terms of skill, knowledge and parts availablity) are hugely demanding, which is why the few cars in that condition are so scarce and expensive.

Re: Mk111 Interceptor
Some of the observations noted on the restoration may be because of my comment from September last year: "As far as I'm aware Woodham Mortimer had not done an Interceptor before this" and their method of doing a restoration. Some of the others may be production team input. As for "no expense spared", it was not. It was done for an agreed price, I believe somewhere around ¾ of a nice big round number.

Re: Mk111 Interceptor
The same thing happened with the Car SOS Interceptor MK1. The grille and side vents were left entirety black. A matter of taste, an omission or cost cutting? I should have asked Fuzz at the NEC show.Steve Payne wrote: ↑Fri Mar 25, 2022 8:07 pm They have painted the headlight surrounds and grill but have not removed the paint from the leading edges.

Re: Mk111 Interceptor
Looks like there’s a problem with the auction site.
I can only find the car from a saved page.
It also says bidding finished 6 weeks ago (see photo)
Can anyone find it without my link ?

Withdrawn or sold prior to the auction would be my guess John.
When I last looked, the auction had yet to start.

Spoke to C & C.
They said the car auction had been temporary suspended to carry out maintenance work!
I’m guessing a test drive showed up a flaw…

Re: Mk111 Interceptor
As I follow Paul Cowland on Twitter I recently saw this post
It seems that there will be one final series in the autumn and the Interceptor will finally be shown then.
Maybe that’s why it was pulled from the C & C Auction
