Looks stunning!! Says it‘s a manual, which is probably a typi.

Elsewhere they have put:
425lb-ft of torque, delivered to the rear wheels through a column-mounted three-speed automatic gearbox.

This looks rather nice
With the column mounted gear selector - the actual 3-speed auto 'box is in the usual position

Re: CV8 Mk3 at Collecting cars auction
I used to own this CV8 MkIII between 2006 and 2009 and had it repainted in the original Autumn Gold, the engine rebuilt and various other mechanical upgrades and repairs. It was a very nicely presented car and looks as though it still is. It has been under the radar since I sold it. More recently, I think Felix spotted an original photo of it at the factory when it had its original registration.

The chassis welding undertaken in a 4 week period following the MOT failure in 2018 probably needs to be checked out before getting too carried away with the bidding...all that glitters is not gold as they say!!!

Re: CV8 Mk3 at Collecting cars auction
Don’t know why the vendor doesn’t get an MOT for the car. A clean 12-months MOT without advisories always helps a car. The same goes for the gold CV8 on carandclassic which has been on the market for months, I saw it when it was previously at auction. Its never had an MOT since at least 2006.

Re: CV8 Mk3 at Collecting cars auction
I see the bidding has reached £16,750 so far with quite a few bidders in play. If it only reaches £35,000 to 40,000 at auction inclusive of 5% premium, as indeed it may in this fairly weak market (numerous overpriced Jensens on the market for months) it will be a very very cheap CV8. A dealer will then put this attractive car in his showroom for £60-£65,000 and probably get it.
It was originally owned by the late Dennis Killeen, the last of four CV8s he owned between 1962 and 1966. I spoke to him at length when I had it (all recorded on file). He did about 30,000 miles in its first year touring the continent on business, then moved on to Interceptors and FFs. His wife had a green CV8 (one of the four) which was kept for a long time. It then passed to a building proprietor in Rochdale who sold it 5 years later when the Old Bill caught him for speeding. It was then owned for 35 years by a gentleman known to him nearby. I put detailed notes of all discussions and research on file.
I bought it in 2005 (not 2006) for £11k. It is largely original. Everything that needed doing I had done, including as noted earlier a repaint in the unique (for a Jensen) Autumn Gold colour, (specified by Dennis), full engine rebuild including replacement block as the original was cracked), cooling upgrades and full mechanical overhaul. The chassis was inspected and all relevant work done. Some work on the front interior leather had been done by the previous owner. The aim was to prepare a beautiful car for long-distance touring rather than a concours exhibit which is not my scene.
It had just turned 100,000 miles when I bought it, backed up by MOTs going back to the 1970s. I did 6,000 miles in it with delightful tours to the north coast of Scotland. The vendor has done a further 4,000 miles in 12 years, probably as part of a collection.

Re: CV8 Mk3 at Collecting cars auction
Hi David
That should be Dennis Kitchin (Killeen being the man from JML).
I have a record of 3 C-V8s owned by Dennis Kitchin, but none were bought in 1962 and none were green. I also have a record of a C-V8 owned by PT KItchin, that one was bought second hand. P T Kitchin was Dennis' brother Peter I think, but which was the green C-V8 bought for Dennis' wife (and which was a 1962 car)?
Regards
John

Re: CV8 Mk3 at Collecting cars auction
Hi John
How right you are! Nothing gets past you. Killeen was referred to twice in my book recently so was in my mind whereas Kitchin was 16 years ago. I was posting from memory though its all correct in the historical notes.
Looking back at those notes, Kitchin told me he had 4 CV8s:
MkI in Red reg 838 HRY
Mk11 in Oyster Grey ENU 250C (in later ownership it carried the reg CV8 I believe)
MkIII reg OTU 469D in Deep Carriage Green for his wife. It was retained until around the year 2000
MkIII original reg LNU 250D in Autumn Gold (reregistered with a personal reg during the third owner’s 35-year ownership and re-registered with the current plate by the auction house in 2005
He then had 2 Interceptors RNU 250E and WNU 250F. Then two FFs
Whether OTU 469D was bought in his company’s name S & J Kitchin, his wife’s name or otherwise I don’t know but they certainly had it from new and kept it a long time.
We did not specifically discuss year so the MkI might have been 1963 rather than 1962.

Re: CV8 Mk3 at Collecting cars auction
Thanks David
The first one was actually a Mk11, 104/2071, a November 1963 car but retained as a demonstrator by Francis Motors until April 1964. The green one is in the records but I made a mistake and wrote the name as Kitchen so when I searched for Kitchin with a second 'i' I didn't find it, Dennis Kitchin, or his wife (the owner is recorded as S & J Kitchin Ltd) was the second owner, though not until 1971.

Re: CV8 Mk3 at Collecting cars auction
Sold for £41,000 or £43,460 incl premium and VAT. Quite a good auction price in the current weaker market. A dealer would charge £60k plus, for nothing extra, so very good buy. As I expected it sailed through its MOT earlier today.
