Red Int Mk1 on Ebay
Red Int Mk1 on Ebay
Looks really good, and seems cheap at the Buy It Now of 19k.
Excellent interior. Almost like it is vinyl?

This looks to be an early one, no c-pillar vents and no oil or brake warning lights between the speedo and tacho, so could well have the vinyl seats. The engine turning on the steering wheel is different.

Re: Red Int Mk1 on Ebay
Wasn't Vinyl (Ambla) standard on early cars with leather only as an extra cost option?

Re: Red Int Mk1 on Ebay
2984 is not that early (sept 68). In fact, it is one of the last Mk1s before the kingpins and fixed door quarterlights. So I do not think Ambla was standard. It may have been an option though the Bible does not mention a trim option.
Seeing it lived in the USA my guess would be it was reupholstered there in vinyl. I have a Jaguar 420 which was reupholstered there in vinyl which looked exactly as the original (like this Interceptor).

I might be wrong but a wood rimmed steering wheel would not be original to this car.

Re: Red Int Mk1 on Ebay
Still a few more months before kingpins were changed out, mine was one of the last, 3067, Nov '68, but hasn't got opening quarterlights and has the c pillar vents, so is a bit of a mix. I went to Switzerland in Nigel's car, shared the driving, that didn't have the dash warning lights, and I found the indicator tell tales were further apart than mine which made them harder to see, so lots of little things developed over time. His is interior Ambla and I joked that in my car you get a better class of sweatiness as mine is leather. I think wood rimmed was standard, leather steering wheels were options, mine has one and is stated in the options list, but I don't know if the engine turning was an option, so may not be the original wheel anyway.Dion wrote: ↑Fri Jul 30, 2021 1:14 pm 2984 is not that early (sept 68). Simon, I'm surprised you don't know what engine turning is, I thought you a well versed gentleman in engineering and vehicle circles. Hope to catch up with you soon.

There is a long and very interesting link here about engine turning:
https://www.circuitousroot.com/artifice ... index.html
Apparently the use of abrasive material to produce repeated swirls was originally called spotting, with engine turning being actually drilling repeated small patterns into the metal.

Re: Red Int Mk1 on Ebay
I went and saw the red Jensen Interceptor advertised on ebay for £19,000.
It wasn’t for me. I’ve uploaded an “unlisted” video to you tube to help anyone else interested in it.
https://youtu.be/osed_3wk84E
You would have to make up your own mind. . I just felt it was not an honest car and I felt there maybe lots of purposely hidden issues. But maybe someone else would see it differently because it wasn’t actually terrible just not for me. Briefly. 1. Not much worked. 2. I felt there was hidden rust problems 3. Engine started 1st time. 4. There was no water in the cooling system. 5. Pretty sure there was a lot of filler hidden by a respray (but maybe not). 6. Gearbox maybe ok and only linkage problems. 7. Typical setup where if in doubt put a coat of black paint in engine bay and boot (nothing there).8. Observation - the vinyl interior had been re-coated
I’ve put a copy here and in the general questions where I originally raised the query
Thank you Brett

Re: Red Int Mk1 on Ebay
Thanks Brett for this inspection video. Agree, it has much to hide. It's a rust bucket really!
Goes to show a personal inspection is always advisable. I am saying this after having bought about 6 cars uninspected in the last couple of years. But, in each case I have had lengthy emails, pictures and calls with the owner and by doing so never was surprised in a bad way. Well OK maybe that Mk7 Jag I would have expected a non-rotten bulkhead but hey
I would like to Thank You Brett, for your very detailed restoration blog on the restoration of your Mk1 FF years ago. It helped me much with my Interceptor. I saved it on my computer as reference.

Thank you Dion. Loved that FF.as I think I mentioned its in a private car collection now with 2 other interceptors, saloon and convertible. I’ve enclosed a few photo attachments of the FF in its current home.
I will keep looking for an honest car. If that one had been £10,000 might have taken the plunge as I have no issues with personally doing work, tho I like to avoid welding bodywork.

Re: Red Int Mk1 on Ebay
Many thanks Brett for the inspection video. I contacted the vendor with some basic questions and finally got a brief reply almost 2 weeks later. I dare say they bought her unseen from the states as on face value it looks good, like anything until you get up close and really inspect it you miss the hidden evils, of which she has plenty. That said, it's not as bsd as some I've seen and still has a lot of potential. Like you Brett, she's not for me either, and i thank you for not wasting a day going to look at it and also walking away.
