Re: 1965 Jensen CV8 THE ONE AND ONLY CONVERTIBLE
Undoubtedly a wonderful car and one I have admired for many years. As David Davies says, the price would be too high, even if in perfect condition, which it isn't, but maybe they would accept realistic offers.
However, I am interested in the comment Kevin Beatty made: "He found a number issues with the car, including torsional weakness, <snip> (All of these faults have subsequently been cured over the years)". I'd love to see pictures of what they did to improve that.

Judging by the photos, I don't think the condition is an issue at all. That is part of its value. I would be surprised if torsional weakness could have been addressed, and it probably isn't that relevant given the use the car will see. As for price, clearly not cheap, it is not far above what some people are asking for FFs. I prefer to see a price than POA, and I agree the description isn't perfect, it reads like an auctioneer or other "specialist" has written it. I am not an expert at selling Jensens. I have sold 6 or so, not for very high prices, and it has taken between 6 months and 2 years to sell them. The market goes through its up and down cycles, and then a waft of buyers seem to appear out of the blue.MikeWilliams wrote: ↑Fri Jun 25, 2021 9:13 am the price would be too high, even if in perfect condition, which it isn't, but maybe they would accept realistic offers.

Is this the CV8 convertible with the extra childs seat in the middle of the two front seats ? From the distant past, I remember seeing it at a Jensen rally at West Bromwich

From C&SC article by Martin Buckley:
Robert Bentley of Classic Automobiles persuaded the Bryants to part with the Jensen a couple of years ago.
“People had forgotten about the car because it had been locked away for so long,” he says. “It needed paint so we did a sympathetic restoration – a respray, carpets and re-Connollising – but mechanically we had to do very little to it.”
"Now that chassis number is particularly interesting ‘cos it’s the one after the one before, which is the one after mine, not many people know that"

Re: 1965 Jensen CV8 THE ONE AND ONLY CONVERTIBLE
With buyers' premium that probably around £150K. Very optimistic!
An authority on values and experienced buyer at car auctions commented here a month or two ago (before he resigned) that few Jensens were currently worth more than £100K and none worth the £200K mentioned for this one.

Just noticed that there was no buyers premium. But it was still too much.

I don't know how you can say it was too much, Mike.
You can't put a firm value on a unique car.
It's worth whatever someone is prepared to bid to in order to get it.
And that requires either meeting the reserve price or outbidding the other party.

Re: 1965 Jensen CV8 THE ONE AND ONLY CONVERTIBLE
The only feature about this car to make it special (other than it's aristo. first owner) is that it was made without a top. With not much way in strength as M'lud did comment. Now any CV8 can be chopped to make the same looking car. OK, it was the only FACTORY chopped car and sold to M'Lud but does that really make it a reeeeealy special car ? However a museum might be interested. But not at the price quoted. I am some what doubtful about the amount bid and think may have been vendor bidding to 130+K. Lack of interest? Will soon be on sale at lower price. Kenny38

Kenny, you may be right. I have known auctioneers bid "off the wall" to put the price up until it approaches the reserve. Often if the bid is close to the reserve a private deal will be arranged after the auction, in which case it won't appear on the open market any time soon. It will be interesting to see.

Re: 1965 Jensen CV8 THE ONE AND ONLY CONVERTIBLE
I suspect the buyer (and now vendor) of this car was drawn in by combination of the car providence and rarity; so potentially paid more than the current market will bear.VFK44 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 01, 2021 9:55 pm

I say this as the auction states the car to be on finance, so either that will be a dealers stocking loan, or if private, another form of the myriad of available finance schemes.
Personally I am by habit skeptical about the very high current consumer (and indeed national) debt/finance levels in general - on most classic cars - far more so.
Youtube is awash with millennials with eye watering finance commitments - often on multiple cars, when we see the next market crash, they and lenders may both be hurt badly .............
Another article on classic cars values here, I know non automotive journalists have to write something new regularly, but in reality nothing we don't all already know:

Saw this today- Aston Martin DB5 convertible (1965) for 2.7 million. And here we are discussing whether or not the C-V8 is worth 5% of that sum
