You're correct of course. I blew that image of the chassis plate up and could not make out the second digit of the number. But looking at it again, I'm convincing myself that I can see the top section of the "1".

But what proves you correct is the registration number!

The famous Irish person mentioned in the ad was Terry Rogers, 'The Red Menace' from the colour of his hair, a bookmaker but also the man who introduced Texas Holdem poker to Ireland, he started the Irish Poker Open in 1980 which was, maybe is as the event is still running, televised. He was a good poker player in his own right, fourth in the world.
