This example now seems to be the world's most expensive Mk3 ever auctioned? (see Glenmarch auction results site for validation).
Whilst we do need to avoid being overly critical (!) and should be pleased that the Market valuations will probably edge upwards as a result of this and other similar future sales, I don't however personally believe that this example equates to "the best". In support of this opinion, I submit the nature of the 20 odd faults and advisories that it was initially presented for the MOT with in December (corrected - but what else got over looked?) as well as the tyres, old air con, battery retainer, painted exhaust pipes and hangers, incorrect tail pipes, spring hangers, inlet colour as obvious examples.
Hopefully, however, the new owner will be happy with it and enjoy.

I think the underside shots and the interior shots helped it make that money. Somehow the stock Mk3 steering wheel managed to look really nice too. A car like that can go anywhere price wise. I think you do have to put a reserve on better quality stuff like that, if two people with the money don't turn up, and it is difficult times for many now, you are stuffed otherwise.

That was a very good price for an auction Interceptor!
At that price I would expect it to be concourse condition and wouldn't be expecting to sell it on for a good few years!

I think we had a buyer who actually wants a good Interceptor today, not next week, and doesn't want to DIY, and doesn't want to play restoration roulette. If you look at the thread about how many hours to restore a car, in the UK, it doesn't make sense to buy one, buy the parts, pay the labour. There is a big risk in doing that as most restorations, if they ever finish, don't turn out well in my view.
