Mk III Interceptor Ex Wheeler Dealers
Mk III Interceptor Ex Wheeler Dealers
This Jensen is the car that changed my relationship with all classics. After stepping in a driving off a little over 18 months ago, in my first drive-able interceptor, I was amazed how good these cars are. I've owned all manner of old bits of metal and in my view, nothing compares. My etype feels like it's a decade older, yet a couple of years separate them.
Now I've taken the decision to sell again, in order to start building a fund to get what I really want - Another Interceptor ...but this time based on my experience of the first two and the particular spec I want.
All this means, WLY 654M is for sale. Also known as the ex-Wheeler Dealers car from Ep.1, Season 7.
The most important bits of info imo:
1. The body needs work and paint.
2. The mechanicals have had all the attention with bills over 18k - steering, brakes, fuel, suspension, new carb and more all done properly at Rejen. Happy to give interested buyers a full spreadsheet of the parts/work.
3. The interior is good, everything works and is in pretty good shape with scope to improve.
4. We discovered the car had a secret...not picked up on the TV show, it seems along time ago it had a 383 dropped in. I have tracked down a 440 with a build number very close to the original factory motor for rebuild, happy to include.
Anyone interested is welcome to ask questions, I'll keep it brief here at this stage - it would be nice to go to a club member. I have now put an add on carandclassic...

Some of the work / history is on this forum. Serious buyers are welcome at my home, and I imagine we can find a way to drive. I'm not far from Southampton.
Price... really I'm not sure where to go with that. The Rejen work is top-drawer, essentially a complete mechanical recommissioning which was what it needed when I bought it. Tell me fellow forum surfers what you think - I'm guessing mid 20's?
More pics available, I'll post a few here.
Thanks,
James

Hi hhkjames,
Any chance of the 383 engine number ?
Would be good to cross reference with chassis book and see what car it came from.
Regards
John P

How does the steering feel on the road with that set-up?

Thanks Grant, interesting to hear - any idea why the change was made or what happened to the original?
Couple of enquiries but early days and possible a bit close to xmas... I'm in no rush.

Re: Mk III Interceptor Ex Wheeler Dealers
Hi John, I'll try to get it in the next few days for you - when this rain stops!!
As for the steering Keith, my last Jensen never made it on the road and so this is the only one I've ever driven. It's miles better than before the work, but you'd expect that. It feels good to me, nice and planted to be honest, pretty direct feel, I was pleasantly surprised on the first drive after Rejen but as I say, I can't compare it. I've always imagined these drove a bit like an 70's/80's XJ Jag, which I've driven lots of, but if anything, it feels less rolling. It's not a hard ride in any way, although my daily is an amg spec merc with 20" and tyres practically painted on - they are too hard really - so the Jensen feels perfect.
...funny how answering peoples questions makes you wonder if you're doing the right thing selling - must keep my eyes on the prize...

Re: Mk III Interceptor Ex Wheeler Dealers
Hi - new member here thinking about getting an Interceptor as a new project.
Is this still available?
Many thanks
Tim
PS I’m in West Sussex, have just completed a nut & bolt refurbishment of my TVR, and have an MX5 kit-car that I built about 5 years ago.
