1972 Jensen Mk III - 133/5722

Post by T22Bones »

Has anyone any knowledge of this car, which I believe has been in California for all of its life? The car is for sale by Eric Schwarz, who has a good reputation and seems honest about the condition.

Hi Grant: Can you educate me on the Vin of this car 133/5722? I know it was manufactured in May '72 but I am unsure as to how to decipher any more.
Thanks,
Tony

The chassis number (they weren't called VIN's in those days) is simply a model designation for market area (133) and production sequence number (5722).
133 simply means LHD USA. Other than original market area you can't decode anything else from the chassis number.
From the records car 5722 had engine HC10276/133 (this was a Jensen numbering system), body colour Mustard, black roof (vinyl), black interior and left the factory on 17/5/1972.

Thanks Chris ....that information is very useful. The car is now black with the same black interior and black vinyl roof. It is a runner, marginally.....and will need TLC and $ to bring it back to driver quality.
It became my car today.....wish me luck!

The car arrives this afternoon by transporter from Encino/Hollywood, CA. I have moved around cars in the garage to accomodate.....I will take pictures and post this weekend.
It is going to be a long journey to recomission.....has anyone got a schedule that they followed?
I am thinking of sequencing fuel system; cooling system; engine; brakes; electrical.....followed by body and interior.
I have specific issues with fuel tank/fuel filters, headlights non-operational, vinyl roof rust? and C pillar top rust, rear window seals, and baked interior! That should keep me busy this weekend.....
Wish me luck, and all advice gratefully accepted..... :)

PS: Spoke to the PO yesterday.....he confirmed it to be a 58,000 mile car, with a $7000 repaint 17 years ago. The car has sat covered and in a garage for 10 years.....I am going to do a full interview with him as he owned the car for 24 years and hopefully extract more documentation.

I think it depends on the state of the car, and your near/ long term plans...

If it runs and you want to drive it for a while....

1. Change all fluids
2. Safety Items (Brakes/Steering)
3. Engine (Fuel/Cooling)

If you are going to do a 100% resto, and only want to do it once, then you may have a completely different scheme.

Be sure if you want to pull it all apart at once... sometimes they never get back together again!

Take a big extinguisher with you just in case, and replace all the wheel studs and make sure they are correctly torqued, as you don't know the service history. A few Interceptors have been overtaken by their alloys after the threads have been stretched by clumsy mechanics.
