The twin targa roofs somewhat spoil the aesthetic! :D

Hello there, first post from a currently non Jensen owning Scotsman living on the South Coast. I’m actually going to see this car tomorrow. Can anyone give me some advice/tips or an opinion on this car? Does anybody know the car?
Much appreciated,
Steve

It appears that maybe they took the original engine out and then stopped working on the car. The included engine probably has never been mounted in this car and of course required much fabrication to make it work. And then the electronics to run it too. I'm thinking the description really does not fit the car! :)

I chatted with Steve yesterday via email and my understanding is that he's likely to fit a standard replacement 383/440 engine and move on the Hemi.
It would certainly be an easier option in many ways.
I hadn't noticed the roof with twin sunroofs, which may or may not float your boat.
As mentioned in my emails, rust is the big thing, so carefully check sills, wheel arches (inner and outers) door bottoms etc.
Brakes etc. will all require rebuilding, possibly new discs - all of which are available.
Most body panels are available from Martin Robey Ltd and other Jensen specialists all at a price.
I'd also check how much of the interior is present and how good the re-upholstered seats are - the seller suggests not particularly well.
Good luck and let us know what you find when you view, or if you decide to buy or walk away :)

I have decided to walk away yes, but I did go and see it. The parts are stored in one location and the car in another. This is the first Jensen I have been to see with a view to buying and have never seen one in bits before so it was a little hard to see what was missing but certainly the front seats. There was plenty of trim, most of the gauges/speedo etc, one exhaust silencer, various bits on interior ( black ) what looked like the original wiring loom and another modern looking loom which may possibly be for the Hemi engine. I expected a lot more parts and what was there was not in great condition.
The car itself is on a farm pushed up against a barn. After getting some tips from Martin I knew the basics and check the inner sills first. Which actually were very solid. The car has obviously had a fair amount of work done but , only in my opinion, to a very poor standard. Very rough welding all over the place. Large amounts of filler all over the rear section and rear side window frame. It essentially looked the victim of some brutal bodging. The floor had all be replaced so inside it looked pretty solid but apart from the rear window, there are no windows in it at all so water is gathering inside and rust beginning all over again. I didn’t see the 7.2 Hemi because I just wasn’t interested.
It was pretty obvious the owner had bitten off more than he could handle in buying this car. He kept moving from coy to expert car restorer, so I didn’t want to be the next person to have this car sitting somewhere for a year or so before trying to move it on.
Again, in my opinion, this car has ‘ run away ‘ written all over it. As this was the first ever Jensen I have been to see I found it quite sad I have to say, she definitely fell in with a bad crowd some years ago.
Thanks a million to Martin and Stuart who between them tore off my rose tinted glasses and gave a much needed reality check.
I will return!

Chris, no I didn’t. I looked in the engine bay, which was empty of course, but I couldn’t see a plate in an obvious place. I think by that point I had decided it wasn’t for me anyway. Sorry

Thanks, I just found it in the chassis data book we have - it's 123/3929. EMP69J is the original registration. Original colour Cassis with Beige interior. Ex-factory date 16/10/70.
If you go and look at others, the chassis plate should be on the passenger side inner wing. Also on a plate on the front cross member.

It can take a lot of determination to walk away sometimes, but well done on recognising the car wasn't for you.
Hopefully you'll find the right one before too long.
Cheers, Martin.

Hi,

I also went to see the car yesterday so thanks for sharing your thoughts after your visit. This does seem one to walk away from.
