FF 127/249 Rosso Red Reg FF3300

Post by Pymmie »

I was asked today to have a good look at a FF Mk2 127/249 Reg FF 3300.

The cars was advertised for sale in 2017 see topic : https://www.joc.org.uk/forum/viewtopic. ... 49#p188304" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Unfortunately the owner has passed away and the sale is going to be handled by the family.

Both Dave Pearce (Oily Rag) and myself went down to South Devon today to see the car and advise the family
on the best way forward.

The car is in very good condition showing 60,000 miles with the paint finish and panel gaps as they should be.

The owner had the car restored in the early 1980's hence the colour change.

Sensible upgrades such as uprated fans , alternator , alarm & fuel injection have been added.

Could do with some detailing to the engine bay and a professional valet.

If you are serious then contact Gus Churchill via email : churchillgus14@hotmail.com

We both thought the market to be stagnant and suggested waiting until the spring.

Note: They are in no rush to sell so silly offers are waste of time.

The car certainly looked very nice, and is kept in a dehumidified garage which seems to be keeping her in great shape.

As John said panel gaps were very good, the doors closed easily and the car even had some of the best door handles I have seen.
Like most cars there are a few minor things to attend to but nothing costly or serious, such as rear bumper was not up to the standard of the rest of the car and would look better rechromed, although more dull than rusty, and the engine bay could do with some minor detailing such as refinishing rocker covers and fusebox lid, but otherwise very nice.
I am being picky with these comments but the rest of the car was so nice it would be a shame not to address these few areas.
The engine fired up easily and sounded good with approx 60K on the clock.

75 to 85.000 because of the totally wrong colour. Red don’t suit an FF ( my ten cent ).
I own some of the odd Jensen 8)

It was red when it was new. It's red now. How can red be totally wrong?

I knew this car was pimpernel originally, and when I saw it I just assumed it was resprayed in the original colour as it is difficult to tell on a phone/monitor. Might be worth checking with a spectrometer.

My advice to the seller would be to properly insure it, take it out and use it, go to a few shows, etc.

I don’t like red cars - that’s all about wrong colour.

If someone likes red it might be worth a premium for that. :-)

I agree John W.

The car owner passed away last year , and will need to be insured by the next generation.

I will try to get the car seen at local Devon/Cornwall shows once the weather improves.

The colour is better in real life compared to my phone pictures ...

I'm not a lover of red cars eitherImage.. and, it is a really hard colour to matchImage, I knew a chap once that had a brand new Vauxhall, it suffered some damage soon after he got it and the door needed painting, it looked a really good match and you just would never have known the door had been painted...............Until the night-timeImage, under a street lamp it was such a different colour you would have thought someone had changed the door from an orange car :?

I like red. :D
Although I do think a contrasting roof (either silver or black) sets it off even better.
Unfortunately I can't afford to buy the FF

I think the red looks great. I'd love to see one of these on Bring a Trailer. See what they are really worth then.
