C-V8 on eBay

Post by 88V8 »

I am vaguely looking for a C-V8, won't be this sad specimen.

Seller has poor feedback, and rather sparse descriptive skills.
Caveat emptor.

The number plate is actually 60 OCV

Surely not worth £6500 as mentioned by seller.

Can only be removed once MOT’d

Being sold by Noah Burton, the "Gypsy King of Meriden", who is a serial Jensen owner / seller.

This advert is misleading and probably against eBay's code for advertisers.

The vehicle registration valuation shown in the listing is for 600 CV which isn't registered on any DVLA vehicle.
The actual registration on this CV8 is 60 OCV which is not valued at over £6000 as stated in the advert.

Spacing the letters and numbers to represent something other than the true registration as shown and suggested in this listing is also illegal.

DVLA seem to have relaxed the rules on spacing, or at least the orforities ssem more inclined to look the other way. Perhaps because DVLA have been auctioning 'cherished' registrations on the implied premise that they might be read in a certain fashion with, ahh, non-standard spacing, so it would be somewhat hypocritical to prosecute owners on that basis.

That said, £6,000 pffft.

Car unsold at £15,800.

Needs a much fuller description, and more and better photos.

Bit high at the front? But listing does now have a pic of the engine.

Unsold at £14,600.

The gloss has certainly come off classic car prices in recent months. A falling tide sinks all ships.

Unsold? It shows as "Reserve Met" to me, so surely that means it's sold, doesn't it?

I also thought it had sold, but the complication might come if Mr Burton decided not to part with the registration, which is on retention, thus his.
At £14,600 sold, it makes me feel a lot happier about the price I paid for my 541R rust bucket,!....so, I wouldn't agree that the shine has gone off all classic cars prices.
If someone now has the car of his dreams, then well done sir ! All it needs now is the extra £100,000 to make it Factory Fresh.

Hopefully there won't be too much of a dispute the buyer realises the seller has misrepresented the registration number which is 60 OCV and not 600 CV.

I thought I remembered your 541 being on sale (mostly because any car with two bonnets simultaneously is memorable) and looked up pictures I had stored of 889 ANN. I store 541 pictures in directories labelled with their registration number, and sometimes add notes like "Alloy wheels" or "Texas". Your's says "889ANN_Wreck", so you have my sympathy!
Is it rust free yet?

No, not rust free yet, although some has since fallen off ! ! It's taken an age to clear space in the workshop in order to start the restoration, but I have been carefully stripping the 541R down and taking lots of photographs.....and collating information ready for us to make a jig.
Mine really is a horror story, but at least she has survived....just !
In my search for some spare parts, I did purchase an early 541 bonnet and a pair of rear wings.....from a car scrapped many years ago.
No use to me, but at least they avoided going to the tip.
I will get round to advertising them in the magazine and forum when I have a spare minute or two.
