Ex-Malcolm Verey / Denis Welch. This is a sister car to the blue racer WLC 422, and should have some very expensive and desirable engine modifications.

Looks very high at the back ? Wonder if they have the spring hangers correct way up ? Perhaps just new springs.
What is the chassis number for this car ?
Mike.

Re: Very nice 541 for auction near Cologne / Germany
Hi Felix, very interesting the work done by Dennis Welch. Not sure why they had to machine bearings to fit the block at the time, unless they could only get wider bearings and had to reduce the width to fit.
Not sure if that was an original Registration plate or not. It was in Suffolk for a time near me. Wonder who owned it then ? (Mike Darby ?)
At first I thought it was my first 541, 22/5206 surfaced again, but still missing since the 80's. Same colour and interior as mine was when I last saw it..

Re: Very nice 541 for auction near Cologne / Germany
the details are not right and I guess the owner had some bigger problems with this 541...

That is very often the case with Catawiki. You would be better off with a "regular" auction house if you want to sell a car.Jens wrote:Reserve price not met - not sold!

Re: Very nice 541 for auction near Cologne / Germany
I would recomment anyone intrested in a car like this, or so many others beeing offered, to learn about the chassis condition. I really think this is the most important thing because other things are more easily changed. Chassis repairs can be executed and often are. How well done and what sections? The rear of the car is depending on the strength of a steel construction that form the inner wheel arches for instance. The integrity is lost when the outsides of the arches rust away and doesn't support the inner rib of the rear body any more. The paint underneath the D-pillar will show cracks because of a flexing rear body. You can put as much layers of paint on the body as you like. You can patch the inner arches. You can put as much as stuf over the metal, it doesn't solve the problem. The bill for that is a lot higher then having the engine done properly.

Re: Very nice 541 for auction near Cologne / Germany
It's now for sale on a German Classic Car website at £48k.
https://www.classic-trader.com/uk/cars/ ... 955/200918
The door gaps and alignment look poor in the earlier pictures. Does anyone know anything about the car ?
It seems to have been advertised on and off for a while. I even found an old advert when it was at the Runnymede motor company for £72k !!!

The car looks quite nice at the pictures. I saw it in real life at the Auto Motor Classica in Essen. The alignment is not too bad I would say, it is just that the profile at the top of the door doesn't quite match with the rear. The car would even look better if they lowered the rear somewhat. Or at least paint the inner wheel arch black in the inside.
