You are right the VIN number is indeed 8426. Poor typing (and checking) on my part.

All the viewing of this car are now complete and I have just PM'd all those parties who have expressed an interest in buying the car with the deadline and bid details.

I believe the reason for so much rust on parts in the engine compartment is that those pieces were painted with a black type of lacquer which is quick drying with very little overspray. High production etc. Lacquer paint is porous and allows moisture through it this in a humid environment all will eventually turn to the even rust appearance. A car stripped to bare metal in a body shop for a year will start to rust under the primer. That is the reason General Motors who used lacquer for the top coat used Enamel for the base coat or primer coat. RacerJoey
