Hello gentlemen.
There has been some confusion about the chassis number on this car.
There was a number plate in the engine room that we had not noticed.
This plate has a Jensen number. (See the picture)
The strange chassis number is on a German Plate (See picture).
Without knowing, I think the number was necessary to get the car registered in Germany, where the first owner lived.

I noticed this car had a cable activated hot water valve probably to the heater to replace the Ranco that is no longer available. At least that is my conclusion. Does anyone know otherwise as I am going this route. RacerJoe

As for the strange TPxxxxx Number: This is a “Typprüfnummer“ assigned by the almighty TÜV. As the Interceptor in 1992 wasn't from a current production series with a series approval, this single car had to be approved on a one-off basis by the technical authority (the TÜV) to be registered “highway legal“ for public roads in Germany. The documentation number matches the TP number.

This approach is still common for very low volume vehicles, mostly trucks and trailers. Additionally this approval can be used for parts, for example a one-off trailer hitch.

You may have spotted the long chassis number, it should have exactly 17 figures - a legal requirement for cars since 1980. Nice to see it starts with JCC which is a rather cool “world manufacturer code“.
In this case, some lazy workman omitted one “0“, and spelled “Jensen Car Camp“ ....

Wow- thats fantastic news, as the a) registra b) enthusiast member since 1988 c) owner of the other S4 saloon- well it beggars belief that anyone that quotes from the book is an expert, esp when in jensen for hmm 5 minutes.
Its bad enough when people are here years that talk utter shite.
170 series, thats classic.

Can anyone shed any B/s on 160 ??

Unreal. I even said I had press phots of that car & got no reply, ask a mong on the forum then, I bet you will get tons............. of magnolia.

Also 131 series SP's have J badges, I wont bore you, I will write another article & look forward to being quoted by utter cumpers- where were these cretins pre the boom then??
It really is beyond belief , people dial into this new expert opinion.
Enjoy.

Dear TimSP. Wot has got into you today? You are practically frothing at the mouth. All 131/ SP's had a "J"? Well I have 131/4592 am third owner and have owned her for 30 years this year (looong day's journey into rather nice condition) There is no "J" anywhere And I was led to believe that this practice didn't start until 1973 cars produced. Give your lovely SP a wash and sit back and listen to the birdies. Highest Regards Kenn38

Not sure what the discussion is about, but this S4 wouldn‘t be the only one with a bit of a complicated story behind the chassis number.
