Classic quote!!!! Another £20k of work should see it looking presentable. :)

I know much about this one.
Long story (which i posted but has not appeared??) so bottom line is its very original, but has been painted, will need bonnet complete as rusted off its pins (which are siezed within) sillf/floor, wings etc etc.
Roof is toast (& likey seized) a UK car spent some time in Canada.
It was sold as seized/cracked block, untested brakes/tranny.
After some time I had it running & moving. Then was placed on e-bay,owner thought I was the bidder (I told him I wouldn't be bidding as I made an offer-which was the e-bay winning offer!) He was gutted wasn't me, so this guy buys it unseen & didn't even call to ask anything about it.
Does no more than clean it & back on e-bay as it was for a 4 grand profit a couple or weeks later.
Fortune favours the brave (stupid) possibly?

Ouch!

I remember it being advertised in Canada with a potentially frost cracked block but hadn't made the connection.

If the roof frame is knackered then that is a big issue as it is going to be very difficult to fix or re-make. As I recall Jensen used to charge £1800 for each of the side arms without the rest of the mechism to make it work plus £400 for the header rail and that was 25 years ago. I was always told the hood frames came from Ford and resemble a mustang but I have never made an exact match. Anyone know anything more?

Frames & parts thereof have to be made using patt, normally when after years of neglect the joints run super dry Then fracture.
I believe the outline was based on Mustang as you say Peter, I recon Mr K can confirm this.
A knackered roof is a serious problem, with other issues could make the car uneconomic, esp is daft money is asked.
Much as I wanted to make this one live & keep, could have been a blessing, as it will take in someone & burn them if not fully aware of whats needed.
Should have been my call though. A bobbin's clean aint 4k either!

As an estate agent I appreciated this bit of the Ebay blurb:

"AND AS A CONVERTIBLE THERE ISN'T MUCH BODY TO DO."

I like a man with a sense of humour.

But from other point of view...

apart from the fact that Jensens rusts badly (as many cars of period), Interceptor really:

- has a lot of flat panels, which is possible to reproduce in situ
- all body panels available, both used and new
- spares supply is fab
- relatively simple body structure with body-on-tubular frame
- even no pressed fendeskirts...
Love classic cars!

Get real here, totally handmade- just price up the panel work & just try and find a boot lid.
Blink & 20k gone.
Thats why so many restorations which start with all the best intentions falter when the grim reality of the undertaking becomes apparent.
