Interceptor LPB 63N sept 1974 looking at it tomorrow
Hi all,
I’m looking at this car tomorrow (Wednesday 1st Dec). I have seen all the past stuff on the forum and the videos on YouTube as it was a “Greatescapecars” hire vehicle, But has anyone seen it recently and have any opinions. The chap selling it only seems to have had it for a couple of years.
Also is there a kind person who could give me any information on its vin number and its original build details?
I think it’s a “normal” interceptor MK111 (whatever that means) but with the addition of some bits off a later MK111 series 4 (not to be confused with the much later 1980’s reintroduction of a series 4 interceptor).
Thank you
Brett.

Hi
I hired it from Great Escapes about 9 years ago and it was looking pretty tired back then.
The bodywork was rusty in places and the front seats were torn. The engine was also quite tired and lacking in performance. The air conditioning didn't work either.
It has since had some bodywork replaced and some repainting. The front seats were also partially retrimmed by the look of it.
When I drove it, the car had a series 4 scoop front spoiler as well as the electric door mirrors. The front spoiler has since been put back to mk3 spec.

Thank you peter and oxymoron. Food for thought I will inspect it with that information in mind. Will be interesting to see what it’s actually like now. He wants £26,750.
Thanks Brett

I think this may have been a Jensen magazine front cover star many years ago. A couple walking hand in hand past an old stone house, and the car is pictured in the distance through a stone arch?

Re: Interceptor LPB 63N sept 1974 looking at it tomorrow
If it didn’t sell at auction back in the good (market) days of 2018 at a guide price of £25-30k, it would set my alarm bells ringing today.
It maybe an OK car, and simply a bad day at auction, but I think any Jensen in that price range, needs careful scrutiny with the prospective buyer’s head leading their heart.

Hi, Mark1stu, Jim and others,
I don’t know how to respond to that stuff about hearts and heads because I bought it for less than advertised. Thanks for the brilliant run down Jim. I’ll put my inspection on YouTube for fun in due course and then you guys can put me right.
I’m sure the diff is worn (clunky) don’t think it’s the UJ’s. Auto and engine seems ok’ish, but always hard to tell until you’ve had it for a while, body very good in my opinion. Some weird stuff going on in the engine bay tho and the guy seemed to love gaffa tape and fibre glass insulation .
Are Steve and the others of the MONDAY club? still with the owners club
Thanks Brett

Congratulations on your purchase Brett, I’m sure you will enjoy your new Interceptor despite the challenges that we all have with our cars. It wouldn’t be fun if it was simple It looks like a lovely car. Steve Payne from the Monday Club is still on the forum and is extremely helpful both in terms of advice and carrying out work if you don’t have the time or inclination to do it yourself. I wish you well with your new car.

I thought about going to look at it, as it wasn't far away and I know the car from having previously hired it. The vendor said they had people queuing up around the block to view it however, so I didn't bother, as I don't really need another Interceptor at the moment and didn't want to waste their time!
It seemed very down on power when I drove it 9 years ago, but it may have had issues back then that have since been sorted.
My only other experience of an Interceptor has been my MK2, which I sold recently and that was a lot faster than the Mk3 hire car!
Cheers,
Jez

Hi Jim
Yep feels down on power to me too. The PO I bought it from had an Edlebrock fitted by Richard Appleyard Engineering. It goes and it stops. Very few of the electrics work tho

You say its down on power but what are you comparing it with? They are not rocket ships but should pull with a decent amount of torque. I suggest you get another owner to drive it so they can give you an idea.
