Re: 1960 Jensen 541S in Sarasota USA
Very nice looking car but I'm a little confused. In the write up it says. Another first for the 541 series was the use of Dunlop disc brakes on all four wheels most having GM-licensed Rolls-Royce Hydra-Matic gearboxes.
Did Jensen need a licence to use this system from Rolls Royce, or was it sub licence from GM ?
I would assume staging from Rolls ?

Re: 1960 Jensen 541S in Sarasota USA
Hydramatic was the first successful mass produced auto trans and Rolls could not afford to design their own box, so they paid GM a licence fee. The first hundred or so that Rolls-Royce fitted were actually supplied direct from GM in Detroit, and after that Rolls-Royce built them in Britain. If Jensen bought them from R-R then the licencing deal would be part of the process.
"Now that chassis number is particularly interesting ‘cos it’s the one after the one before, which is the one after mine, not many people know that"
