Re: Tom 88 440 rebuild

Just a guess , but it looks to me it has had a small end failure which has punched the con rod through the piston top and jammed up on the bore then the other piston has taken an almighty whack bending the con rod .

Re: Head Gasket Slot Alignment....

From what I have seen and read on this forum this is how they are designed to keep the temperature up for the sake of emissions, however you can open up the slots . Somebody with first hand experience will be along shortly to tell you by how much.

Re: JAGUAR STYLE UPHOLSTERY FOR MY JENSEN ?

Steven LA. Your seats look absolutely Inviting. Personally I feel the interior is warm and inviting and does not need the piping for car to make a statement. Sometimes the piping is a statement from the owner that the owner wants the car to stand out. Personally I don’t want anything to stand out. ...

Re: Non starting MK1 383

Hi Steve agree with you there , just easier to move the leads if you’re working on your own . If we are all reading this correctly from the point of view the rotor arm is pointing just passed the clip in an anti clock wise direction then he has to be firing on number 8 by the lay out of his leads ,l...

Re: Non starting MK1 383

Lukey reading your post on rotor arm position it would seem it is pointing at number 8 and not 1 move the plug leads round one anti-clockwise and see if it fires then .

Re: Non starting MK1 383

I fully agree with Chris that the original starters don’t sound very fast , when I first got my car it sounded like a WW11 Spitfire trying to start but none the less still managed to fire up , a new battery improved things but I kept the starter and works fine.

Re: Non starting MK1 383

Lukey have you tried putting a 12 volt feed direct to the coil as you may well have a spark but not a strong enough one under compression. Check your battery terminals are not getting too hot if they are you have to much resistance somewhere, take a earth strap from engine to chassis see if this hel...

Re: power steering problem

Hi DPP. Wheeled the car out, my wife lifted the front for me and I did what you suggested. moved the wheel over and back again for 5 mins. Forgot wife was holding the car front up. Anyway it seems to have worked. Might have a small rack leak. Missus was a bloody nuisance complaining about back pain...
