Re: SP back to England
For me it was an eyeopener when i changed the plugs. Some of them extremely oily. Subjectively the engine ran nice and there was no obvious smoke visible when driving - even not for following cars - BUT some valve stem seals were extremely brittle and already split. Exchanging the valve stem seals w...

Re: Body wrapping of an Interceptor
hmm - one aspect beside the appearance issue - will the wrap really stand the temperature of the hood/bonnet in Tokio traffic conditions with hours of "crawling"?

Re: Jensen Int. MKIII 140/8609 At Estate Auction
i miss the typical MkIII louvres in hood/bonnet and have some doubts regarding the air cleaner housing and front/rear valances - but yes - fairly original and honest description. Auction result will be interesting.Robinson D wrote:Appears to be fairly original...

Re: Spark plugs
Hi Fredrik,
i second Steve's statement that you got the wrong NGKs.
I am currently running on NGK XR5 again. These are just standard NGKs for about 30 Euro per set of 8 - no superduper Iridiums.

Re: Rhythmic vibrations from 383
Before you start the deep dive with pulling the plugs etc what about a quick check with the infrared thermometer?
A misfiring / non-firing cylinder might be identified with lower exhaust port temperature.
Just an idea ...

Re: rocker arm shaft play
Hi Florian, first of all - just for understanding - are you talking about brand new engine parts or a used engine with high mileage? I have the impression some wear seems to be quite normal for the stamped steel rockers. As the contact forces are concentrated in the lower part of the rocker bore whe...

Re: 440 engine and gearbox split apart with a siezed engine
Hmm - not an easy situation. What you might also consider is to disassemble the engine in situ and start/try to unseize it. Means you pull the heads (which will also reduce the weight far by more than 100 pounds incl intake etc and has to be done anyway). Than you can see how desperately corroded th...

valve spring retainer warped
Hi all, i am just in the process to replace my 40+ yrs old valve stem seals. Now i have an idea how "petrified rubber" could look like. Genrally the job went smootly but during final inspection - when measuring the installed spring height- i noticed that one inlet valve retainer was about ...
