Re: Interceptor at the Gstaad Swiss Open 1971

The car in the picture is an Interceptor II which, to judge from the b/w photo, is painted some pale colour. FFs do not have side markers, the FF badge is not there and all of those serials had Federal tail lamps.

Re: Interceptor at the Gstaad Swiss Open 1971

There were no LHD cars in the subject range painted Yellow but there were a few painted Metallic Fawn. That might present a challenge to the software. No RHD Interceptor IIs were sold new to Switzerland. 5006 (Crystal Blue) is the only car listed in the records as having side markers, but 5011 (Crys...

Re: Interceptor at the Gstaad Swiss Open 1971

I would expect the Pistachio to be all gone as the factory would have done a thorough job in the repaint. I would have expected to see some Calsage if the car had been repainted privately, but that OEW layer is hard to argue with. The holes could have been filled but there are European cars with bot...

Re: Interceptor at the Gstaad Swiss Open 1971

It certainly looks Old English White in the colorized image so there are other possibilities. From the databook or Genome - 5002 (Austria) 5012 (FRG) 5018 (CH) 5023 (Austria) All within easy range of Gstaad. The photos of 5009 in restoration do not show the side markers so probably it is not that one.

Re: Interceptor at the Gstaad Swiss Open 1971

My guess would be 5009, for all the reasons you see in the Genome. It was built for US certification and that would explain the side markers. Side markers were also found on other early LHDs with the Vignale tail lights. 5009 was last known to me in Switzerland in 2013. Felix, if you are in touch wi...

Re: Determining match numbers

If there is nothing wrong with the block, it can be built up to any standard you like. Having a very good engine (powerful, not overheating, tractable) is more important than the number on the block. With Jensens, the matching numbers concept is largely unimportant. You could go hunting for an H-ser...

INT 5646

The engine number will be on the other pad. You know it is not the original engine because it is a 7-series block, assembled November 16 (2nd shift) 1976.

Re: Correct Blue Metallic Paint for a 72 MK3

Martin, 4818 was originally painted Royal Blue in air drying cellulose metallic. The ICI code was M031 3310. ICI codes are usually cross referencable to modern formulations.

It's quite unusual to find one without aircon which was still an option at this stage of RHD production. The large cutout for the Learjet would have been filled with a blanking plate and the smaller standard radio would have been set within that plate, as the 8-track option was not taken either.

Agreed. That car presents like it did when it was new. If the condition is up there, it's certainly worth the money. Few cars remain that way.

Towing with SP 8026

>Not many SP’s with a Tow Bar.

Running with the bonnet unlatched. Usually a sign that the cooling system is under stress.

Indeed that is the back end of SP 8726. I saw it at the factory in 1989. It was blue at the time. Another one gone.

Re: Mk 3 Int at Bonhams

Shill bidding can be a problem with auctions of any kind. It can also be legal. I sat in an auction one time and watched a Convertible receive four bids from two bidders. It reached reserve and the auctioneer sold it to the highest bidder, or so you would think if you were in the room. Later I read ...
