Re: Classic cars on the road

Those X1/9s still look good, one of the wedge designs that really hasn't aged. I believe people are putting Uno Turbo units in them these days, apparently a simple job, which gives them the performance to match the looks. :D

Re: What did you do with your car today/weekend?

Had a busy one, spent a day in the week cleaning all the engine components for my Cortina, with Saturday and today starting to put it back together. Lots of Graphogen assembly paste used on all machined surfaces, but now have come to a full stop as I can't find the oil slinger that fits on the front...

I envy you Felix, and your roads, especially as I'm in my office at work now, and will be here until 9pm this evening. Love the black & white photos :D

Re: What did you do with your car today/weekend?

Last weekend I did a dummy build of my Lotus engine(cortina not Healey) to measure all the clearances prior to the assembly proper. Using plastigauge, dial gauge, micrometers and the like to ensure all is well. As they say measure twice, good job I did, all was not well. As some of you will know thi...

Re: Drive it day, what did you get up to?

Did a 50 mile run around Shropshire & Worcestershire, have posted a few photos in Gen Discussion, Classic Cars on the Road thread. Weather stayed away, was rather nice, rain didn't start until I got home. Had a nice run.

Re: Classic cars on the road

Some of the cars on my local club run, avoided any rain and had a nice 50 mile drive through Shropshire& Worcestershire. The massive thing next to mine is a Buick LeSabre, with a piddly 5.4L engine. Not everybody's cup of tea, but quite an impressive thing with power everything in 1961. The 1924...

Re: Restoration Show 2023

See you all there tomorrow. If anybody is interested, I am on The Stourbridge Pre War Car Club stand all weekend, a few stands away from the JOC, and we're taking the engine out of an Austin Somerset, then finding out why it is seized. Come along and say hello.

All have a good show.

Re: Classic Cars Top 10 Dream Drive List

If you ever see the original design for the Allegro, it was a really good looking car. It was originally designed with a flat 4 engine, so the bonnet was really low and the car looked really sleek. The engine never happened, so the really tall A series was installed, high bonnet line and whole desig...

Re: Quiz

Drill out the rivets and see what is inside, may give you a clue to the manufacture, even a part number.

Re: NEC CLASSIC CAR SHOW 11-13 NOVEMBER 2022

Great photos, and an enjoyable 2 days, meeting and greeting, although my feet and back were aching by the end of the day. Great to catch up with you all, and well done all who organised it, I felt it was a success, the cars were well accepted, and the apprentices were a highlight for me, and a massi...

Re: Classic cars on the road

A friend had a 2000TC in orange with black chrome, he bought it as he was fed up with his MK2 RS2000 being stolen every few weeks. You could watch them rot, but left the engines and 'boxes for conversions, the Moggie Minor being a favourite to put them in. Nostalgia used to be classed as a disease, ...

Re: Technical Tips

Trying to undo that crosshead screw, knowing that once it slips it will get harder to undo, put a tiny bit of fine valve grinding paste on the end of the screwdriver, stops it slipping. Sometimes works on chewed up heads too if there is still something for the screwdriver to grip.

Re: 541S 1000/3 First Season Successes

I already have my first paintwork chip! Good man, get out there and use it, it will get better the more you do. I hate to see cars unused, there was a DeTomaso Mangusta at the NEC a few years ago, it was stunning, I asked the owner what do they drive like? He said I don't know never driven it in 15...
