Re: C-V8 FF Recreation
I must admit it looks more and more tempting  Now, if somebody would take my 541 project off my hands...... (Beyond loads of detective work across four countries to establish the true identity and get paperwork for it the only thing done has been to collect hard to find parts. When I get ar...

Re: C-V8 FF Recreation
Looking at the latest pics I am even more convinced the chassis with parts in front of the bulkhead is an FF item grafted onto the rest. The front bulkhead is C-V8. The upper part i. e. 10cm above floor of the rear bulkhead may be C-V8 as well. The lower part from front bulkhead and all the way to t...

Re: C-V8 FF Recreation
The recreation chassis as shown in the ad at the start here does look more like a C-V8 chassis modified with FF tubes, does any C-V8 experts here recognise the side view of the bulkhead? In particular the horizontal slot, none of my FFs had/have these while the cutaway from The Motor October 10 1962...

Re: C-V8 FF Recreation
One more round in the hamster wheel  Ron said it was a modified C-V8 chassis. So take a rotten such, graft FF tubes into the sides, cut floor to accommodate the transfer box an you are there. In front of the bulkhead copy FF. Whether that is what Jensen did instead of starting with a 541S chass...

Re: C-V8 FF Recreation
Going by Ron's statement the actual chassis is C-V8 so paperwork, maybe some bits and possibly the front subframe off an FF.

Re: 1969 Mk1 FF-R supercharged
They say the R is the only one that still delivers on the dream. I am sure it is nice but the original delivers as far as I am concerned. For all practical purposes I used 053 as a daily driver for something like five years, year round. By choice. It delivered.

Re: C-V8 FF Recreation
Going by the photo in the ad nothing has been done to the bonnet.

Re: C-V8 FF Recreation
So with Ron's statement on the recreation being based on a C-V8 chassis it is most likely the C-V8 donating the body actually provided all the bits that are in common with the FF. Does that help you in identifying the donor John?

Re: C-V8 FF Recreation
So the recreation based on a C-V8 chassis could be close to the original then? Unless of course the mule was 541S based.

Re: C-V8 FF Recreation
And that means we have two sources for the existence of the mule, which was a bodyless chassis.
So the chassis used for the roadgoing prototype could be a purpose built variation on the Interceptor chassis or based on the spare 1122.

Re: C-V8 FF Recreation
The 2014 discussion on the recreation project had Ron stating it was based on a C-V8 chassis. And that it does not resemble a proper FF chassis.

Re: C-V8 FF Recreation
The story by Ulric you refer to, is that "The sandbag FF" chapter in his trilogy? I suppose the truth is somewhere in between. Getting a complex chassis like the FF right first time round is not really likely. My guess is the front part ahead of the bulkhead really was scrapped at least on...

Re: C-V8 FF Recreation
Oh and it seems the prototype shown was not really scrapped but lived on under new guise(s), only formally scrapped in the books and for DVLA (or the predecessor of DVLA). Being a fairly common practice at the time I can believe it. I still wonder though if that first chassis was the spare 541S chas...

Re: C-V8 FF Recreation
The previous discussion here that I took part in was around 2007 but the the threads do not exist anymore. Anyway the start was an FF chassis with a C-V8 body where the bonnet and wings were yet to be modified. Looks like nothing much has happened in the meantime. The FF chassis in question was fair...
