Re: 440 J series - low compression left side head

Valve seat recession is a problem on these cars, those that think its OK are living on borrowed time if they dont use an additive. I have seen a cylinder head on one of these engines with the valves so far recessed that they had gone into the waterways and the heads were scrap. When new I am sure it...

Re: Classic cars on the road

From the picture it looks like a 1920's Bentley but it would help if we could see the reg number.
A sad day indeed but better than it rotting in some forgotten garage.

Re: MKIII Distributor but no vacuum tube

In my experience if an owner complains the car feels flat it is well worth checking if the cannister is working. I have seen cars with faulty cannisters running a lot of initial advance to get them to run better but they then take the chance of pinking. Even cars highly modified with big cams and hi...

Re: Coolant replacement and removing air from engine

Neil It sounds like you might have another problem. What temp do your cooling fans cut in at and what temp is your engine after a 30 min run. Not what is says on the gauge what the actual temp is at the top hose where it leaves the thermostat housing.( Infra red thermometer is useful A lot of gauges...

Does matching numbers actually make a difference

I keep hearing this phrase about matching numbers, I think it is another thing that has come over from the States. One car I went to look at for a potential customer fairly recently asked me to check. It was a nice car but the engine had been replaced as there were receipts to this effect. He was no...

Jensen Monday Club

Over the last couple of years the Jensen Monday Club website had been having trouble, Kerry who has been looking after it has spent the last couple of weeks now he has retired getting it back to what it was. There are a couple of new adventures on the site. http://simonsheridan.co.uk/jmc23/Main%20Me...

Re: Oil sender conundrum

You can drop the oil pressure by fitting a softer spring on the relief valve. There are also adjustable ones available if you want to find tune it. The sender with the original part number is available here https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/353721348571. I have fitted the new version that Robeys sell and i...

Re: Name that car

I think it looks more like a Dingo.

There used to be one at a playground near my house when I was a kid, can you imagine that these days? All those hard edges. Health and safety would have a field day.
