Re: Setting my Timing...
Thanks, Thomas.... ... snip ... I tried to make my own "timing tape" - It doesn't seem too hard, except I can't get my string around the balancer .... Rocky I remember i had similar difficulties. In the end i simply checked the balancer specs at 440source.com - if i remember right it was ...

Re: Setting my Timing...
Hi Rocky, 36 degr with all mechanical/centrifugal advance in sounds right. I would give this target prio1 and see what is the resulting timing at idle. Very probably a value between 5 and 10 degr. My personal experience is that the engine is much more responsive at idle with 15 degr or even a bit mo...

Re: European meeting in Germany 2017
Jens - thanks for the hotel booking, and Peter your 'base camp' idea is excellent! Really looking forward to the event! Cheers Tony Hi all, so it looks like the idea of a western base camp is well received - supporting visitors from UK/NL/... Having our scandinavian and baltic participants in mind ...

Re: What car to replace an ageing V6 Merc C-Class?
hmm - i had a similar problem with my ageing V6 Merc in my SLK320 R170. My solution was buying one of the last naturally aspirated V8s (SLK55 R172). So far i am happy with my choice - but it is definitely totally outdated and will have no value in 10 years following the mainstream prognosis. Wait (e...

Re: Settings for Thermoquad 6545
VERY interesting reading - thx Bruce. Till 10 minutes ago i THOUGHT i got the original carb in a box from the PO but looking to the stamped numbers this is not the case. Not really sure if i should be happy about it or not. So what i have is a TQ 9801S which is obviously an aftermarket version. In a...

Re: Settings for Thermoquad 6545
Hi Philip, it is a bit off-topic but I am really impressed by your new avatar. Did you change to 25" rims ipo 15" ? 8) Back to Thermoquads: Is there any chance to "detune" the late series4 California TQ with the additional anti-smog devices to "normal" TQ functionality ...

Re: Settings for Thermoquad 6545
Thank you, Chris. Will forward your informations to our JCC member. I suspect 850 cfm is a bit over the top for a standard 440 engine...? i also read about this surprisingly high cfm rating of the TQs - but there seems to be different measurement methods (dry/wet). Not sure if this explains the hig...

Re: Top Tips - Eyebrows
If both your eyebrows should fall off, obtain two furry caterpillars and superglue them onto your head as replacements. Make sure they are both the same colour, length and diameter, otherwise you will look a bit silly. To ensure optimum left/right balance you may slice ONE caterpillar alternatively...

Re: Which vacuum port on Edelbrock carb?
IF we look to the original question - missing some 100 horsepowers - i am really sceptical if we will find them "in the vacuum" or related to lighter/more aggressive advance. John wrote his total ignition at high revs is about 35 degr and this should get all ponies up to speed ignitionwise...

Re: Which vacuum port on Edelbrock carb?
... you are definitely on the right track - do not forget to check fuel availibility/pressure at high loads/WOT. Everything might be ok at idle/low load - but if you really ask for lots of fuel (and that is what a 383 does) there might be "undersupply" because of fuel pump/line/filter issu...
